Speedometer= OK, Odometer= NOT Ok

1998 F150

271K+ miles...filled up the tank last week and today noticed that the trip odometer was still set to zero (I reset it at every fillup) AND the odometer itself is not moving.

Speedo works fine....but...

Anyone had the same deal and know how to fix it?...or maybe just know how to fix it?

TIA

Havent had my cluster out in awhile,but I can tell you that the SPEEDO is Electrical,which means the odometer should be as well.If youre brave you can pull the cluster out,and take it apart.It could be anything from a frozen up Odometer control motor,to broken gears.
My advice(since its showing that kind of miles anyway) would be to find a Salvage Yard cluster and just replace the one you have.
Chances of fixing yours even if you do get apart,are slim unless somethings just come loose.:-X25

Tried pushing the button again? My 97 has done that a couple of times .. pushed the button and it started working

Actually I have Ron..but whereas before, I could feel it resetting, now I don't feel anything. As if it's not engaging.

Thanks for the idea, tho...

This may be a good thing....If you cant feel it resetting the tumblers,its a probable sign that its mechanical.Taking the cluster apart carefully may expose a loose retaining clip on the assembly,or at least indicate whats broken.....:-X25
Just be sure that you have a clean workbench to use,and plenty of light....:-jammin
