79 Lightening

I recently purchaced a 99 Lightening Crate Motor to instal into my 79 F150 4x4. I am planning on useing a 4R100 out of a Excursion for a Transmision. Right now I am not certian if I should try and use an entire wiring harness out of a 99 F150, and customize my dash, etc, or try to make a coversion harness to run this set up with my 79 harness? Has anyone ever attempeted this madness, or ever heard of a company that might be able to help with the wiring? Any imput would be appreciated.

I have a 78 4X4 which I had been considering the same conversion. I wondered what information you had gotten if any, let me know.

The more research that I do the more work I find. I have the engine, but it did not come with a computer, so I have to get a new one from Ford at the tune off $300+ a hundred core charge. Since I will have to have one to run this beast I'm considering on buying a 2001 modle along with the 2001 MAF to try to get those few extra horses out of it. Major modifications are needed in the engine compartment as well, the 5.4 is quite a bit wider than my old 351m so out come the factory a/c box, and move over brake booster to make room for the valve cover, this engine is also very tall, it looks like it is going to make it without a hood scoop, but it is going to be close, also I don't know where I am going to mount the inter cooler when I get one. The 4r100 out of an Excursion should work with it but again, I might need some minor programing done to the computer system, also if you have a short bed like I do it will scare you how lonk the transmission, and tranfer case are. The drivelines are going to be tricky, with a real long front, and a stubby short rear one. Unless you are clinically as insane as I am, you might just consider spending the money on tweeking out something that will just bolt in, or a late model 460 that will convert a lot easyer. If not good luck, It's good to know that I'm not the only crazzy one out there.
