'92 Lightning vs. '85 Z28
The story first, then the question.
A few years back a buddy of mine bought a '92 Lightning and I fell in love with it the first time I did doughnuts in it. At the time I owned an '85 Z28, and, of course, we had to line them up. I smoked him bad...OK, I didn't smoke him, but I outran his Lightning in my stock Z28. The bad thing is, my Z28 was slow; my '83 HO Mustang smoked it constantly. Even though my Z was faster I would have traded him in a minute. Ever since, I have wanted a Lightning. My question is: Did my buddy buy a sick '92 L or should I look for a newer model? My Z didn't run any better than very high 15's (going down hill). I know the newer ones are much faster, but should the older models be that much slower? I know I can find specs on the internet, but I want to hear from those who can tell me first hand info on this truck. |

Something was wrong with his truck. Mine ran a 15.4 absolutely stone stock. With the timing turned up to 14 degrees and no air filter, it ran 15.0. No disrespect meant, but I would have never hesitated to have raced a 305 Z-28.
