racing idle on '57 223 w/ Holley 1904
Finally got the fuel system replaced on the 223-6 and now the truck wont idle smoothly (OK it never really did). I have adjusted the idle screw 1.5 turns out and it still requires the choke out to idle. Now when it tries to idle, it starts racing and never finds a home. Also, I noticed the carb bowl doesnt keep full over night. I assume I am losing it down the intake? Are these two problems related?? Am I in need of a rebuild on the Holley 1904?? Any thoughts?

223 idle
my 60 f100 with the 223 had a vacumm leak under the carb and at the vacumm wiper connection at the top of the fuel pump. I tightned them up,and the idle is fine now. My carb bowl also leaked gas out over night, I replaced the metal bowl with a glass one so I could see what it's doing, and the new gasket fixed that problem. Hope it helps, tony

Vacuum Leak most likely. If you can't kill the engine with the Idle MIxture screw, you have air coming in from someplace else.....

like they said vacuum leak or in the case of the holley 94 on my flatty , it wasn't the carb perse , but the throotle return spring was catching on the choke linkage and it would idle like it was going to a race . fixed that lil' issue just to have more consarned problems . for some reason me and holley anything dont get along anymore .................:eek::)
