V/B Code Tire Sizes

Hey guys, great site. I've been lurking here for a while and have gleaned a ton of good info.

I'm fixing up my Ex, 2001 7.3L 4x4, and am gathering the parts to do the V/B code spring swap soon. After reading through a ton of posts, the thing I don't see is what size tires are you guys running after your do the swap?

I went to a 285/75 on the stock Rim. Diameter is 33" and the width is good so you don't have to worry about rubbing. Many people run this size without any lift.
You could go with a 33x12.5 Mud tire I'm sure too, but not sure if the backspacing on the stock rim would cause run issues.
Probably could get by with a 35" too, but might have more rubbing to contend with.

Well, I'll let you know in the next week or so.

Got the W code springs and associated bits to do the swap, just waiting for the Bilsteins to arrive. I have a set of 315/75/16 Kumho KL71's on aftermarket rims sitting in a buddies garage waiting for the spring swap.

I also am running the 285's before and after the spring swap. We get too much snow to run too wide a tire and can't afford two sets, so this seems to work with lots of clearance.

Just save yourself the time and send the 35"s to me. I put 6" BDS lift on and my 34X14.5X16's rub a little when I'm off road. I have the V10 and had X codes in with 285's and they did mostly okay.

I ran 305's stock and with V codes and 350 block. No rubbage either time. This was on stock rims.

Alright, you convinced me... send me your address and I'll ship them to you at my cost. I'll even throw in a complete EB interior as a bonus....:)

Thanks for the imput. I'll have to noodle a little on what I want to get. Leaning towards Toyo Open Country MT 285/75/18s right now.

A 285/75/18 is 2" taller than a 285/75/16. With that tire you'll be at 34.8".

Don't know if it will rub or not but just wanted you to know how tall it is.

You are so wise and generous, too!!!:-kneeslap

Thanks Scott, yeah I know how tall they are. I may just wait to get the springs on, drive it for a week to let everything settle, and then pick the tire based on clearance. I may end up using the 275/70/18s, or maybe I'll score a set of 08 MY 20's...

I did that too, half on purpose. Wanted to do the springs first to see what type of improvement they made before adding the tires to the equation. Would have liked to do the shocks separate too, but they were so far gone that it made sense just to get them out while in there.
That way if the steering is off, something goes bump etc - you have one less variable to worry about.
