Is this worth it?
Is it worth it to do CAI to a 4.0L V6? Does it really mean much in the way of performance, whether by HP or by MPGs? I'm pondering throwing one on the Explorer. Not 100% sure I'd go for it but it's definately running thru my mind.
And if I were to go for it - who's got a good product? K&N isn't high on my list because of their filters (just not crazy about them for some reason), and when I research AFE, the website's kind of strange and I can't narrow it down right, so I'm not sure I have the product I really need. |
yeah I would get it. IMO any help the ford engine would get is very helpful. beside CAI sound so good

Go with it, but AEM and K&N have the best filters in my opinion, AEM has their new dry flow in case you dont want to clean the K&N.

AEM's website doesn't even allow you to search for an Explorer. I tried plugging in a Ranger with a 4.0L, not sure if it's the same product though.
I don't care so much about the sound - although sound is a fun thing to have and I've never had a loud truck/car before, so maybe I'll even go for the flowmasters too...lol. I just care about overall performance. So I think I'll investigate this some more. |
I installed the Volant CAI
I just installed a Volant cold air intake on a 2005 Expedition, 5.4V8 4x4. It did help with performance. The truck just gets around easier now. You step on the gas and it goes. The air filter is enclosed in a sealed box. I'm no expert here, but they tell me this helps keep it from being to loud. This is different from a lot of the other companies. Volant claims 16 horsepower and 18 ft lbs. of torque increase. I believe it. After running a few tankfulls of gas through the truck, my average mileage went from 13.4 to 14.1. Does this help? Oh, I bought through autoanything.com. I had a very good experience. They also have lots of reviews. I was not sure what to do and never done anything like this before. So, I called Volant. They were great to talk to and answered every dumb question I asked.

I didn't look at Volant yet, although I do intend to. I'm still researching this whole thing before I buy, plus I'm doing new shocks and new exhaust first. But thanks for the input though...sounds like a good experience with Volant.

It was a good experience. Have you looked at a Gibson exhaust system. My Ford mechanic recommended them to me. He preferred them to Flowmaster. I have one for my Expedition sitting in the garage - just haven't installed it yet. Good luck!

I will do that...thanks for reminding me. There's a lot of products out there and if I'm going to drop $$ into this, I want to be sure to get the right one that gives me the best possible product for the money.

I also have a Volant CAI for my 2006 F150 5.4. I haven't noticed all that much difference in mileage when driving around normally, maybe a slight increase. I did however notice some increase in mileage while towing. It also sounds wicked :D I would definitely recommend them!
