1991 Silver Anniversary

I'm considering taking a trade for a 1991 Silver Anniversary Bronco for my F100, how is it compared to a regular Bronco that year? I really couldn't find a lot of info or production numbers on them...

You can buy a digital copy of Bronco Driver mag.
Issue #33 had several Silver Anniversary Broncos in it with a short story on them.
Contents - http://www.broncodriver.com/contents.html
Order-http://www.magazinemuseum.com/Produc...uctCode=BD3033
If I remember correctly, there was a diesel converted anniversary in it also.

**EDIT**
After digging my copy of #33 out, the author of the story claims only 3000 Silver anniversaries were made.
You could get them in any color as long as it was Currant Red with a Currant Red roof and dark charcoal leather interior.
He also claims they came with special keys.
You could even get a special edition leather jacket and bag when you ordered the vehicle.

I'd post the article for you, but I don't want to violate any copyrights and Bronco Driver is a good publication that is worthy of your support.

The SA's had a relief medallion on the "B" posts commemorating the 25 year production run as well. You could get the SA without the leather but it was a FIRST EVER for the Bronco so few were ordered without it. The numbers were most likely as low as mentioned since the price tag was up above the XLT's and Eddie Bauers. Special Editions usually tip the scales at the high end of the trim levels.

The engine and transmission packages were the same as the rest of the trim levels for that year. It is doubtful that many if any had the manual. The SA was really not much more than a special trim level with the color, leather and medallions being the obvious appearance differences.

The SA that I own, was the currant red, red carpet, grey seats leather seats with a red bar in them. Floor mats with silver aniversary stitched in them. Red bars denoting silver aniversary, and the mentioned badging. From my understanding, the standard engine was 5.8L, E4OD transmission, electric shift 4wd, and I think 31s where standard. Other than the interior and badging, you couldnt tell it was different from any other bronco. If you can get an unmolested, unrusted, well worn leather example they are very very sweet rides every bit as capable as other broncos. Mine though may not make it as long as the others, missouri rust is taking healthy bites out of it, and previous owners havent been as kind to it.

The 302 v8 was standard on the SAE, mine has it. It is not true that leather was an option, leather was standard on the SAE. I have seen a pic of an SAE with cloth seats but they are not factory. E4OD trans and electric shift 4WD also standard. The only color as noted is Currant Red. The carpet is also a heavier, more plush carpet than the standard Bronco fare. I bought mine in 1993 with 44K miles on it, it's got 250K now. There are special keys, I have seen them on eBay, but they were gone by the time I got my truck. The SAE came with 31x10.50R15 Goodyear Wrangler Radials on aluminum rims.

SA edition is just another bronco that had with a few bells & whistles, great looks for factory truck. came with matching leather jacket, matching leather bag & keys. mine has 240,000 on it & still strong. 91 eddie bauer $18000, 91 SA $ 26,000. that's the big deal. mine is about to go through MAJOR update.

My silver anniversary has factory cloth seats.

Those seats are not from the factory, somebody replaced the leather with cloth.

I am looking at the 1991 Ford Bronco brochure right now, which has a picture of the SAE on page 3 and this statement: "Ford is celebrating Bronco's Silver Anniversary with a limited production model. It's Currant Red with Silver Anniversary front fender emblem and logo on the outside spare tire carrier. Interior appointments include leather seat surfaces on Captain's Chairs, 22-oz. carpeting - and more. Ask your Ford Dealer for details."

Hate to say it jas88 but that cloth seat looks pretty similar to the ripped up leather seat I covered up with a cloth seat cover, though it doesnt show the back of the seat. I cant see much else but the interior looks like mine as well. Just wish mine looked like that, darn POs.

If you look at 1fastII's supermotors page, it looks like his SA Bronco has been highly modified since the above picture.

His rims look closer to the 92-96 style 15" rims, I think I would switch him bodies in a heartbeat though.

The back of the seats are vinyl, and I got the truck in 98 when it had 85k miles. Considering the condition of the rest of the truck, I doubt the leather was so torn up that someone would want to recover all 3 seats. These seats sure look and feel like factory seats.

jas88 09-23-2009 08:57 AM

So you really have no way of knowing whether they are factory or not. Any good upholstery man can make seat covers that look as good or better than factory. You should see the seats in my '91 F150 - my guy had the original Ford seat cloth and made covers that you cannot tell from factory Ford.

85K is plenty of miles for someone to replace the seat covers - mine were already cracked on the driver's side when I bought it at 44K miles. Or maybe the guy's wife didn't like leather because it made her sweat, or whatever. Heck, the PO could have had them replaced by the dealer when it was new. You never know what goes on with POs - people do all kinds of things that make sense to them only.

When you show me an original build sheet that specifies cloth seats and the SAE package, then I will believe. Until that time, I am going with what the Ford brochure says and also my memory from the Houston Auto Show in 1990 where I first saw the SAE Bronco. I thought it was the best looking Bronco I ever saw so I bought one.

Another thing - if those seats were factory, they would have been patterned after the Eddie Bauer seats (look at the stitching - it's not like XLT seats at all) and those have cloth backs. Also Ford would have matched the inserts in the door panels to the cloth like they did on every other '91 Bronco.

I am not saying you are being dishonest or anything like that, I am just saying you made an assumption that I think is not correct.
