Just Installed My Bodiak Front Hitch!
Just got it put on and man is this thing hefty! I am gonna love it for camping. I put it on to hold a bike rack or a cargo carrier to haul a scooter on. Took about 15 minutes to mount it.
http://i293.photobucket.com/albums/m...x/DSCF0136.jpg It even had clearance for my driving lights...... |
Sweet! You could insert a hitchiker, two coolers and a big bundle of campfire wood.
I just have two easy questions and one harder one - 1) quanta costa? 2) I think there has been a discussion that 00s and 01s front suspension allows easy front hitch installation (bolts are right there) but this may be cheaper/easier, and 3) I think us dsl Xs gotta worry about putting to much weight on our inadequate front springs so I wonder how much weight I could actually carry up front (would it be worth it)? |
With shipping, it was $228 delivered here in NW Indiana. This thing is very beefy. Rated at 500lbs tongue weight and 8k towing. I sure would never put 500lbs on it, but it's nice to know I have some breathing room.
I looked over the Reese instructions for putting a regular receiver on my X, and it was not a real easy task. Not impossible, just not what I would call easy. I stood on my hitch and I hardly got any deflection at all, and I am approx. 300lbs. I know that the dsl X carries more weight by default, but it should still work ok for carrying a few hundred lbs. |
Thats a good price and it looks simple to install. Think that's what I'll use :-) thanks for the info.

What brand is it? Do you remove the tow hooks, or do you mount it to them?

https://bodiaknet.powweb.com/store/c...445316f698c74d Hooked up my neighbors car hauler yesterday to try it and man can you manuever a trailer that way!! |
Looks good. That's what I had added - photo's in gallery. It was a little more difficult since I have a brush guard and had to do a little extra maneuvering, but I love it.

Bringing back an old one, but has anyone else used this. I'm very interested.

Since the link above, doesn't work: Ford Excursion Front end receiver hitch - Bodiak
This looks pretty cool. Bob/Cardiac69 - Are you still happy with your Hellwig? |
Thanks Bob. I also have the Hellwig and it is a must have mod in my opinion. I have never had to touch/tighten it in 10 years :-drink

Do you think it would be OK to put this on a 2010 F350 super duty dsl dually. We have a scooter hauler that weighs 115 lbs and the Vespa weighs in at 325. We haul a 38 ft. Cameo fifth wheel.
New to the forum and I apologize if there is another thread that answers my question. |
