'78 Tranny swap (C6 to E4OD)
Has anyone attempted this: Complete Overdrive Conversion for '78-'79 Ford Bronco
It might be a little longer before I can sell my '78 and thought this might be a cool project. |

It might be a little longer before I can sell my '78 and thought this might be a cool project. The E4OD is as big as a house and is electronically controlled, requiring a controller either from the engine computer or a stand-alone unit. Two very different animals. If you have a 300, 302 or 351w, the AOD, properly beefed from an '88-'93 core would be the way to go. |
Thanks. I'm not really much up on transmissions and didn't realize there was an AOD. From what I'm reading, it appears that you don't recommend putting an AOD behind a 351/400 or 460.

They sell adaptors for the 351m/400/460 bell pattern, but unless you really beef the AOD, it isn't going to be happy in a heavier vehicle with lots of power. It might do ok behind a stock 351m, but if you are going to all that work and money, there are probably better choices.
