Dollies & Log Splitters

I hate talking to the DMV. I live in Washington State. Does anyone know if car dollies need to be licensed? What about the log splitters that have the hitch coupling? I have never seen a plate on one or even a frame for a plate. I have seen red reflectors on some but no brake/turn signal lights. Are they even legal to tow on hiway?

Like M,

From WA. State Motor Vehicle Laws, RCW 46.16.010

(4) The following vehicles, whether operated solo or in combination, are exempt from license registration and displaying license plates as required by this chapter:

(a) A converter gear used to convert a semitrailer into a trailer or a two-axle truck or tractor into a three or more axle truck or tractor or used in any other manner to increase the number of axles of a vehicle. Converter gear includes an auxiliary axle, booster axle, dolly, and jeep axle.

(b) A tow dolly that is used for towing a motor vehicle behind another motor vehicle. The front or rear wheels of the towed vehicle are secured to and rest on the tow dolly that is attached to the towing vehicle by a tow bar.

====
I find no mention of Log splitters or the like and would assume,
(ass-u-me), that a license is required.

Thanks, DSD.

I'll check with Costco or Home Depot. I think they sell log splitters assembled, so they should know. I am guesing a license is not required as I see no other way for people to get those home.

I'm in Michigan. Dollys, as one of our posters mentioned, don't need a plate. Lights would seem like a good idea, however, just from a safety angle. Log splitters don't need one. Here in michigan, splitters, concrete mixers, air compressors, tool cribs and whatever are exempted as 'special mobile equipment'. Is this really a big concern where you live ? Neither of my trailers has a license on it, Dad's boat trailer has no license, and my buddys travel trailer has no license. I've pulled all of them without ever even getting so much as a funny look.
