EGR Valve cleaning results

Pulled my EGR valve for the second time yesterday at 45k miles. First time i pulled it @ 30k miles the valve had wet gunk all over it. This time and the CCV reroute at 33k miles, the EGR valve wasnt wet. Dry soot all over it. No oil in the intake elbow and the port for the egr valve was a lot dryer than the last time a pulled it. Also found a new way to get the valve out. Take the bolts out, remove the intake elbow and turn the valve counter clock wise. Take a flat head screwdriver and get under the valve and give it a pop. Came right out and no CEL so i guess i didnt tear it up!

Excellent news. My plans are to do the same thing at 15k (I am almost there).

moyock, have you cleaned yours yet?. ive been reading your posts and that sounds like a good place to start, unless its still under warranty.if it is get 'er to the dealer.

Steelhead2...it's still under warranty, but how do I get them to perform the work? I asked them what they thought it could be...they want $100 for diagnostic (which I had just done for $65 at Carquest to pull code P0528). Can I just call them and say, I think its my EGR valve can you check it?

For those who don't already know, here are the instructions to clean the egr valve. :) Diesel Technician Society

Emissions systems are suppose to be covered - without charging deductible.

Thanks Bismic...I didn't know that. Always great info from you. I'll get with my dealer and get it checked out.
