Front axle leaking

I was changing my oil last week and noticed a drip of something on my front axle seal closest to the differential on the drivers side. I wiped it with my finger and smelled it and sure enough it was gear oil. Has anybody else seen this problem. It's going to the dealer tomorrow to get checked out.

How many miles on your rig?

A seal failure is not that uncommon.

I have 31700 miles on it. It ended up being a bad seal, fixed under warranty. I was posting to see if anyone else may have had this issue. Thanks.

Good thing it was under warranty.

Its strange after reading this I decided to crawl under and have a peak. The front looks ok but I found a fairly large leak coming out the side of the rear diff towards the tire. Anyways it's going into the shop tomorrow.

Yes, it's a known issue, Ford has a TSB out on it, and any dealer worth their salt will have the seals in stock. Just had mine done at 26k on my 2007.

Check your rear shocks too, both mine were leaking at 10k. Also had to do a rear axle bearing at 8k.

Do you know the TSB info around that? It goes to the dealership tomorrow and want to make sure I have everything I need just in case.
