Mechanic thatis stuped

I have a 98 2.5l ford ranger resently i was driving and the o/d light started to flash and when stop and then try to go you can feel the tranny slip so i checked the fluid it was clean no burnt smell i found if i down shift the tran dosent slip as bad i changed the abs sensor on the rear pumpkin and the fluid and filter i drove the truck after i did all that and when the truck is cold or been siting for a while that it drives fine and shifts fine and no flashing o/d light but when it gets warm than it starts to act up im a mechanic but not that good with trannys any help would be great

If it gets worse with warmer engine (ATF fluid) temps, then I would guess it's either a line pressure issue, or a problem with the overdrive itself.

In any case, I think you might need a tranny specialist on this one.

well that is what i was thinking

try to ajust OD band. but usually it works for 30-50K.

i didnt think the od band was adjustable ?

drive it in "D" (overdrive locked out) and see if you still have issues, if you do its more than a overdrive problem. thats about all the help i can be, im more of a manual-trans person.

If the O/D off light starting flashing, there is some internal problem. At least the computer is telling you, before it takes a dump on you. On my Windstar, it threw a couple of codes. A piston inside was not right, and something else. Time for a trip to the transmission shop.

well, gentelmen, lets try to solve problems with tranny on truck first. What we can do? Ajust OD band, change OD piston, its internal sealing (2 o rings on "stick").

well, we can also drop valve body and change some valves, pistons... the next step is to drop a tranny.

but ones I pulled out OD servo piston and 2 small part fall down in tranny and I had to drop tranny anyway.

Well, OD band change requires to remove bellhousing and valve body. so 3 new gaskets... so there is a reson to change OD clutch pack too.

ok! but... as experience say, do all tranny rebuild, becouse I changed OD band first and got 2nd gear sliping, chnged band #2.... and a year later I got no reverse becouse of worn band, so there is reason to change all and be sure your tranny will run fine for next 5 ore more years.
