99-03 differences

I was just wondering the differences per year from 99 to 2003, i was looking at a 99.5 and a 01 both with good miles 110,000 on the 99.5 and 91,000 on the 2001 i also found a 03 with about 130,000 i just wanted to know the differences between the powerstroke engines these years. thanks.

welcome to FTE

the rods are better up to early 00 if you plan on going over 400HP..early 01 trucks had diod in the trans for the first 6 months..Ford changed back cause it just didnt work well..the early 99 had smaller turbo, HPOP and injectors..these trucks where built before 12/7/98..

You'll notice that the 03 probably has a few more creature comforts inside, also.

Ron, I think the forged rods came in the '00 and the early '01s. I have a early '01 with forged rods. I also have the diod trans.

So is there really much performance difference from the 99.5 to 03? or not really that noticeable. I also already have another PSD but i want to buy another to put money into instead of another work truck.

There were a batch of engine's in 2000 yr trucks that had PMR's. I found out the hard way after purchasing a block from a 2000 and discovering it had PMR's.

Yes

Back on topic, starting in 2002, Ford did a mild redesign in that the headlights housings were a clear jeweled look, some of the interior upgrades and such. Here's an article to browse through.

What's new for 2002 Superduty

all years 99.5 - early 03 are the same power when in stock form..

All Business 09 03-01-2009 07:52 PM

Oh ok thats good, thanks for the info, i also just found a 2000 with 72,000 on the engine! I was surprised to see that low of miles...now i read up there, what are PMR's? and are there noted problems with this year?

i thought the earlier trucks were "rated" for 225, and the later ones were rated for 250 hp?
