911 help/ Starter install goin bad
Sorry guys. I need immediate assistance. Got DB starter model #2-2197-ND from them for an 02 PSD 4X4 and Im having issues getting it mounted. Is this the right starter? Also there is a bolt at the top right of the starter housing on the truck w/a tab that is connected to the inspection cover. Does this need to be removed?
Any help would be greatly appreciated. I've got an hour before I gotta be at work. Thanks again. |
Does anyone know if the model #2-2197-ND from DB Electrical is the correct starter for my 2002 F50 PSD? That is the number on the starter itself. The box also has the same number along with the # 17802.
I have been wrestling the thing for an hour and can't get it in. The cross member does not seem to be the issue. Anyone know what I might be doing wrong? |
I looked up that number on a couple of parts sites, it looks like it is the correct starter but that is about all the help I can give, haven't had to replace mine yet.

Is it the high torque starter or the regular starter? 2 or 3 mounting holes? No other bolts have to come out except those in that hold the starter in.
I can't find anything on DB's website with that part number. edit. Looks to be the high torque. |

I checked the DB site and I can't seem to find the number that you posted. Whichstarter did you get?

OK. Back at home now. Heres what my invoice from DB Electrical for my High Torque Starter says:
Item: SND0355/ 17802 Description: NEW Ford 7.3 Deisel Powerstroke Truck 2001-2006 Now on the blue boxit came in, it says World Power Systems Premium Qualiy Starter. The scew label on the side says: 2-2197-ND and under that it says: 17802N On the starter itself there is a label with the model # 2-2197-ND Anyone else remember their part/model #s or if this is plain the wrong part? |

Thanks BDalton. I guess I got the right part. I will be trying again this morning. I will let you all know how I fair. The drain tube should be facing the ground I understand. If there are any other tricks to get er in there let me know please. I will be in/out of the GEERAge tryn to get er done...

Well Gents
Just tried it again. No fit. Gonna have to grind crossmember to get that beaset in there. PITA. Starters should not be rocket science. Anyway, when pulling the bolt off of the solenoid wire I noticed a small crack on the connector. Got it off and barely bent it and it broke:-banghead. 2 ?s. 1st Could a bad connection have caused my factory starter to go bad? 2nd Whats the best way to replace that matting end that goes over the top of the bolt. BTW the factory bolt on the solenoid wire is too big to fit on the DB HT unit and they did not supply 1.:mad: |
a bad conection can cause problems..any thing is posable...mine all fit perfect..it is close to the cross member..I'm going to watch it and see if it hits.if it does,,I will grind a little off..I stuck the head into the bell housing then lifted the rear of the starter up into place..all my wires fit right on..I just had to bend the tap on the big connector..make sure you use lock tight on the bolts....

Did u install the High Torque unit that way or the stock replacement. My stocker goes right in w/no issue. This HT big boy is 2wice the size of the stocker. Looks like Im gonna have to take the lip section off that cross member in the area to get it in there. Anyone have pixs of how much they removed and how much is too much before I get started here? |
it was the HT..just yesterday..slid the head in and wiggled it to the far left..(passenger side) so it fell in deep.(past the fly wheel)..after I got the back up and in.. I twisted the starter into place and snug up one bolt to hold the starter..I then put lock tight on one bolt and put in the top hole..then took out lower bolt and put the lock tight on the bolt and put it back in and tighten the starter a little at time one each bolt till it was tight..i also hung my starter with wire and hooked all my wires before i put it in..
