[updated:LAST EDITED ON 17-Jan-02 AT 02:03 PM (EST)]Looks like they track will start to get exiting if we start seeing these trucks. 03 silverado ss 6.0 liter .supercharged? http://www.pickuptruck.com/html/2003/chevrolet/silveradoss/guide.html

and the 03 dodge srt-10 8.3 liter est. 500hp 12.9 ets. @ 106 mph http://www.pickuptruck.com/html/autoshows/naias2002/dodge/ramsrt10.html

Lets see how much more power Ford can sqeeze out of the little 5.4 in 03. They have always had to have larger engines to keep up.:-X01

That dodge is FUGLY :-X13

The proof is in the pudding but if it's priced reasonably and lives up to the hype it'll steal alot of the Lightning's thunder...

Uh, let's see.......mass production trucks making 500+ HP and they are supposed to be competitively priced with the L? Hahahaha :-X24

I'll take the looks, performance, and unique collectibility of my Lightning over the competition anyday. And if the Dodge SRT/10 gets any uglier during production, it could end up challenging the Chevy Avalanche for top honors in the Ugliest Truck Awards.

Oo.

FINALLY!!!!

WHAT TOOK DODGE AND CHEVY SOO FREAKIN LONG!!!!

Ford is only using their SOCH 5.4 L SC in the Lighting right now right?

What about slipping the DOCH 5.4 L from the 00 CObra R or
sliding the new 2003 GT40's DOCH 5.4 L SC into this truck.
Thats what dodge is planning on doing. Puting the new Viper V10 into their SRT 10

Im really looking foward to the competition now.

All I gotta say is, ITS ABOUT TIME!!!

STAY TRUE TO BLUE!!

ROLL ON BLUE OVAL!!

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 25-Mar-02 AT 10:48 PM (EST)]Just curious as to why no one thinks that Dodge can build a competatively priced Lighting class truck? Think about it they used all off the shelf parts. Nothing had to be specially created to build this truck. Besides it would be pointless to call it the Lighting's competion which Dodge does and price it to the roof. I'm not getting into the which is faster debate we'll leave that for when the truck hits the market. You can buy a viper crate engine from Mopar for around 10 grand U.S I think. So whats a new L sell for in the U.S 35grand? Obviously mopar can build the engine for less then 10k so they have the rest to toss in the truck. Theres usually a 100% mark up on autoparts anyways. In all honesty I don't think its as far fetched as you guys think to build an L priced SRT Ram. Besides you should be happy, finally the L will have some real competion and Ford will be forced to upgrade the L too. Plus it shows the Big 3 there is a performance market. As far as looks it depends who you ask. I personally love the looks of the Ram, its just so different but not in a plastic like Jetsons way. You either love em or hate em. How can anyone compare the Srt to the Avalanche? That things is up there with the Aztec what the hell is GM thinking?

well, as far as the ss goes....fat chance...that truck has corvette fron and rear suspension, a rear mounted tranny and drivetrain from the vette....yay, a full size vette with no room in the bed, but hey, we have more leg room. even john moss said he doesnt know about production. and the srt 10? the tranny and motor alone are worth what a base truck is. and 24s? even if they go down to 22s thats still alot of dough for just wheels and tires. i doubt it will be close to the lightning in price range. but i definately think they should try to get em out there so ford can keep bumpin up the lightning. it needs some competition that has a bed on the back of it....heh

just my 2 cents

I actually have heard that a Viper V10 crate engine runs in the range of $14-$16k. Even if the Viper engine went for $10k, that means alot less for the truck itself. So you'll have a great drivetrain, and a crap body. Sounds wonderful.

If they do make the dodge with the viper v10 and offer is as low as the L, they are gonna piss off some Viper owners. The Viper stated in motortrend it does the 1/4 in 12.19@ 199.15mph and the srt does it 12.9@ 106mph, the 0-60 for the Viper is 4 sec and the srt is @ 5 sec, pretty damn close with the Viper .The viper starts @ 73K and they wanna make the srt compete with a Lightning 32k:-X23 . Heck the srt looks like a pig if you ask me:-X10 . Well if they wanna sing it they better bring it:-X01 . My pappi use to tell me that competition brings out the best in the person. I wanna see what Ford brings out.

srt ----> :-X19 <-----lightning

uhhh, i agree, but one part of your info is off, by quite a bit i think. how can you pull a 12.19 1/4 time and reach a speed of 199mph? that would either be a wrong 1/4 time, or a wrong mph. andf i would guess it was the wrong mph, cause the 1/4 time sounds about right, but i would suspect the mph to be around 119 maybe? just wonderin. later fellas

yeah 119mph is right. my mind to hand cordination was off on that sorry:-X23

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 30-Mar-02 AT 05:20 PM (EST)]Well Viper owners should be much more pissed of then Mustang owners considering from what I've read the L will destroy a mustang. And think about it the SRT will handle great but its still a truck. The viper will still have twice the handleing and much higher top speeds. I don;t see how they will have a crap body. Like I say you like it or you don't but there's nothing poorly built about it. But as I said time will tell. If anything the new Neon will put a bit of competition on L owners. A 208hp supercharged Neon. 0-60 in 5.8seconds might be pretty fun.

Just think of it, all the power of a Viper, all the steering slop of a Ram. Dodge, its a verb, not a noun.

Actully if you bothered to read any magazines test of the new Ram they all say it handles mor elike a car then any truck they have driven. They have new rack and pinion steering. Plus the SRT has upgraded steering, suspension and the big brake rotors off the viper.

ryanstruck 03-31-2002 12:49 AM

Lightning competition in 2003

Well they sure need those big brakes to hanle those oversized slop wheels! And you're right, time sure will tell. And did i just not make sense to anyone when i said, "how can it compare to an L with an engine with such a huge price tag?!" do you not follow my drift? if the engine alone has such a high cost, which a viper engine most certainly does, how can the body be anything if it's to compare to the L? And hell son, if you're gonna start comparin apples to oranges, like a 208 hp little lightweight neon compared to a 380 hp fullsize truck, then why not make it interesting and compare the little neon to say the new cobras coming out, or maybe better, the GT40.............as you said, time as sure as heck will tell.

FTE Ken 03-31-2002 05:53 AM

I have read the magazines.... I just know that regardless of the stated specs that if it has and of the handling problems common in the Dodge trucks that within a year or two of owning it it'll start developing steering slop. While the new Ram may handle more like a car, the Lighting isn't just any truck..... it handles like a sports car in the corners. And the Lightning is a sharp looking truck. The way overdone grill area of the new Dodge is butt ugly and looks like an old man sticking his dentures out.
