Determine if Expedition has tow package
 

I've just started looking for an Expedition. I'm looking for an 02-06 Expedition and I want the HD towing package. How can I tell when I go to look at these vehicles if they have the factory installed HD towing package? Is there a code or something in the VIN or do I need to check for all the individual parts that make up the tow package?

If they're like the Explorer, the receiver hitch will be either 1.25" or 2"; the 2" indicates the tow package is there.

The towing package was standard on the 2003 and came with the class III hitch, 4 and 7 pin connector, transmission cooler, and I think the heavy duty flasher. Here's the link to the '03 towing guide. The '02 was the older body style before the rear independent suspension so it may be different. Not sure what changed after the '03s but you can get the towing guides for each year and in them, they tell you what towing equipment was standard / optional for each model.
