Broke down in North Carolina

Hi guys,

Well on a trip to Florida my turbo bit the dust so to speak. Going 60-65 mph and towing the fifth wheel, all hell broke loose. It sounded like a bunch of ball bearings being tossed around inside a metal can. I lost all boost pressure when the noise started but was able to step on the gas and bring it back up again so I knew it was still working but not well. I limped into NC to a Ford dealer and they confirmed the turbo was DOA. I am waiting for a new one to be shipped to them. Has anyone had to have there turbo's replaced? I only have 28k miles on my truck even tho it is 4 1/2 years old. I just had a pryo gauge installed and a MBRP cat back system put on, could this have had any effect to the turbo? Well, I hope all gets put back together again soon and we can continue to sunny Florida cause it's cold here in NC. Take care,
Barry

Sorry to see that Barry, the truck is still under the 5yr 100,000 mile warranty right?

I doubt that the pyro or the exhaust would have caused it unless the exhaust created too much back pressure some way.

You don't have a programmer or chip in it do you?

I have replaced Turbo's as soon as 15k, can't explain why the turbos go up so quickly on the 6.0

glruff, no I don't have a chip installed on my truck, and I doubt that I ever would. The cat back exhaust actually should reduce the back pressure as it is more freeflowing than the stock. It has a bit deeper tone than stock and it sounds good, though I'm sure it wouldn't make some happy that like to hear the turbo whistle. You don't get that much of a sound from this system but I like it. We are still waiting word on when I get my truck back, hopefully today. I spoke with another friend who had his turbo replaced and he said they messed up the programming after the install. I'm not sure if they have to reprogram my truck or not. He said that he had no power at takeoff or pulling grades, until he took it back and they re-did the programming and that fixed the power problem. It's still cold and windy here in NC but its supposed to warm up tomorrow, we will be on our way by the time it warms up, I hope.

normally there is an update for the PCM to help control the turbo.

Thanks for the info, I hope they get the update right so I don't have to bring it back anytime soon.
