Lost my ignition key!
 

My friend has a 1986 F150 and he lost the ignition key for it. So, Im assuming he needs to get a new lock cylinder for it. The problem i9s, every instruction set I find requires you to turn the key to the run position to remove it, which I obviously cannot do. Is there another way?

Round up as many Ford ignition keys that you can and give 'um a try... I was surprised to find out that the key to my parents Ford wagon also fit the neighbors Mercury, how convenient! Later on I bought a tilt colum for my '73 Mustang and did not need to re-key it! It’s worth a try…

The best and probally the cheapest way to go is to go to the ford dealer and give them the vin # off the truck and they can match the # to a key pattern and cut a new key.This type of thing happened to me and I went to the dealer.

It may not be the best, but the quickest easiest is to take a large screwdriver or chisel, and break the chrome piece off. It's not that hard to do. Then you can reach in there and release the pin, and take it out. The local parts stores have the new cylinder locks in stock. They will give you a new set of keys to go with it. sorry for drudging up this old thread. I took a hammer and screwdriver to my chrome piece and I still cant figure how to get this cylinder out!

You have to use something pretty flat and reach in between the steering housing and lock cylinder. You should be able to find the button easily, there should be a hole on the outside of the column where the button is located. I have also used a good bit and drilled the button out before. You have to have very sharp bit to do this.
