Banks, again

Does anyone know if and when Banks is going to come out with a tuner for the 6.4L? A non DPF delete tuner.
Thanks

Very VERY soon actually. I'll be posting up more details when it's ready. I can tell you that it will NOT be the Six Gun it's going to be the Economind tuner for work and better fuel economy. It will also be 100% DPF friendly:D

Banks

I understand the unit is out now. What is involved in the install?

Most tuners that are out now, even the custom ones, are 100% dpf friendly and have posted remarkable gains in both mileage and horsepower and are custom tunes to boot. Alot of other options that I have yet to see banks advertise as well.

Tuners

Appreciate your comments. Any recommendations for non DPF delete tuners?

tex25025 03-09-2009 03:29 PM

The one that majority of people advocate in the 6.4 forums(atleast on powerstroke.org in particular) is Spartan's tuner(which I do have to say for full disclosure I'm beta testing for the 6.0) which has a set of non-dpf delete tunes that has hp gains of 150, they can go up to 250 with his tuner but that requires the dpf delete, so he can do more. Plus you can customize it for later modifications if you do so. Also tunes are stored on SD cards and an 8Gig SD card can hold 2300 tunes, more then you'll ever need I'm sure. He uses the DashDAQ as a platform for his tunes and you can go to their website to find out all that it can do(which is extensive, much more then what you can get using the other monitors), you can also tune more then one vehicle at the same time. Plus the tunes are custom, which means he writes custom tunes for your driving habits which helps maximize efficiency, banks doesn't do that(unless like stated they made significant changes on their newer tuners).

I could go on and on for what his tuner can do. Unless the new banks has been overhauled then it won't be close.

Tuners

Are the installs simple?
Thanks

Very simple because your computer for the 6.4 already measures EGTs, which is were you would normally have to drill and tap to get those readings for most monitors, this one reads it thru the computer. You hookup the wire to the OBD-II port, mount the monitor using the supplied mount, read your trucks strategy send that info to Matt and he'll email your tunes back to you. Load those tunes on the SD card, plug that into the monitor and your ready to go.

As far as computer readings to analog readings, I have only noticed one difference and this is with the 6.0 computer and sensor, so I don't know if that translates to the 6.4 or not, but the TFT readings is off by 2-4 degrees on the hotter side with the DashDAQ. Now I would consider that negligible considering you can get a short sweet analog gauge and have the needle out in a blank spot between readings and depending on how much of a difference between the two known readings is, you can be off by 2-4 degrees(if not more) guessing on the analog gauge.

What I wonder about the Banks is the Factory Warranty. I got the call for the pre-release special, but forgot to ask if they have spoken with Ford and if Ford is taking any position on the product.

Sure would be nice to keep the warranty.

I wish I could tell you some of the things I know.

I know it's like having said "I know a great story, but I can't tell you".

According to another web site Banks representative said the first units will be ready to ship around March 30. They will add 100 HP and 220 ft-lbs. torque. Very little impact on DPF, 2% additional soot at 100% throttle at max setting. Full EGT safety features built in. It should be on the website in 2 days from today the 24th March.

Call Banks direct for direct answers. Don't depend on "I wish I could tell you some of the things I know".

Not very sophisticated if that's all it does even with the dpf intact you can get more then that without causing damage.

Still have seen better and it's already out, plus it's custom tuning. Sounds like it's not any better then what they offer for the 6.0. Plus from what I've read it doesn't offer correct full tranny tuning.

That wasn't related to what he was asking about. I was adding more information then he needed to know and some proprietary information that I couldn't mention specifically. Otherwise, my chances of staying within the know go down exponentially. None of which was related to Banks product specifically. Really need to make sure of the context in which it was discussed in.
