Towing with ts chip
Turns out the truck I bought has the 6 position ts chip. The way it was mounted for some reason had it in a little bind and it would not turn the last two clicks. The last setting is high idle, and judging by the smoke the next one is the 140. I am going to see if ts can tell by the numbers on it what the other setting are. My question is what setting do I need to tow on? I know for sure not the 140. I don't have gauges yet and don't want to risk hurting anything. Will only be towing about 6,000 lbs this weekend.
Suggestions... comments... what ever ya got Thanks |
honestly without gauges i would find out what the stock setting was and tow with that one.

6,000 lbs in not much weight, but I would stay in the the first couple of tunes untill I got gauges. With gauges, you can watch and see if you are doing harm to the engine. Without gauges, I would run in the safe tunes.

Talked with TS, said they could not tell with any of the numbers but probably the settings are stock, 50, 75, 100,140, high idle. They recommend towing in the 50 or 75 for best performance and mileage. Said should be ok without gauges. What do yall think? Like to get the best mileage and performance as possible but want to keep it running in the process.
Thanks again |
you'll be ok, just don't horse it too much.

overdrive on or off?

i don't have an auto, but 6k lbs. isn't very much so i bet OD on is fine.

I tow in OD on, unless the trans start shifting back and forth looking for gears.

I have been told I have a TS chip, but am not sure. I usually tow my 3-4k trailer in the second setting and get the best mileage. I will be upgrading to a DP eventually.
