2002 brake pressure switch/cruise control switch?
I did some searches and found some info, but not enough. What is the proper name of the sensor/switch on the end of the brake master cylinder? Its the one with the recall fuse/wiring harness added on to it. (already had the recall part put on) My truck is leaking brake fluid from this area. I need to replace it and haven't found it online. I'm hoping to avoid a trip to the dealer. Does the whole part get replaced, with the metal mount, or just the sensor/switch inside of it? Also, how much of a mess is this gonna make when I pull the part? Need to bleed the brakes after?
Is this the part? It looks like the sensor, but not sure. O'Reilly Auto Parts Is this it? Looks the same, but with the wiring includedRock Auto |
Speed Control Disconnect Switch is Ford's name.
It just screws into the the master cylinder without requiring bleeding. The switch and harness is less that $20 at a dealer if you ask for the recall kit. Steve |
If you had the recall done already, bring it back to the dealer and demand it fixed for free. This switch leaking fluid is what the recall was for.

the recall fix was done over 2 yrs ago, the switch was not leaking at the time. As I understand the recall is an add on wiring harness with a fuse, does not cover the switch. I guess I'll just go get the part at the dealer and swap it myself, don't feel like waiting around all day to get it fixed.

Got the part at the dealer ($22 w/tax) and swapped it out in 15 min. But my cruise control won't work. I rarely use the CC, but I noticed it wasn't working when I noticed the leak, so I assumed it was related. I checked the fuse under the dash, still good. Is there another fuse under the hood, manual didn't mention one. Don't have any CEL light, everything else is working. Anything else I could check. Don't use the CC much, so I guess I'll just leave it alone.

That "link" the dealer would have installed as a part of the fix is nothing more than a fuse. Odds are you've blown that. Quick test would be to just remove that link and hook it direct. If that works, get the link replaced. Or make your own.

thanks, I'll check that out. Now that I remember there is a fuse holder in that recall harness. Just gotta check if I can open it, or if it's sealed. The new switch came with short harness, I asked the parts guy if I should use it or just take off the recall harness and use the new one. He said to just plug it into the recall harness. I wonder if there is another fuse in that new harness?

If you had the recall done already, bring it back to the dealer and demand it fixed for free. This switch leaking fluid is what the recall was for. Or just unplug the recall harness from the vehicle harness and plug a jumper into the vehicle harness. A paper clip will do the job for testing to see if the cruise now works. FWIW, for a 2002, you should be running the cruise self-test first. Steve |
fixed it. The fuse in the recall harness was blown, didn't have any 2 amp fuses, so when and got some. Guess it did it's job, truck didn't spontaneously conbust.....
Thanks all for the help! |
