Why Bilstein Shocks?
 

so looking through some of the posts it seems like Bilstein is favored. Just curious as to why? Quality in product? Ride Quality?currently i have revtek shocks that came with the lift kit and it rides like hell. 2 hours on the freeway and my back and neck are killing me.

Bilstiens ride like a caddy yet have alot of control and dont get out of hand. They can get a little stiff on some roads when its really cold out (10* or below) but overall they are the best riding shok for the money/style.

I had them on my old tacoma as well and they were great on that truck too. They are jsut a wel enginred all around quality shock. Made in germany just like the Sham WOW! :D

Not sure you can even get Billies with a big lift though, but again, I am not sure. I really like mine.

He will point you in the right direction if shocks is all you need, or help you figure out if the issue is from the lift. Very knowledgeable guy, and it doesn't hurt that he also can sell you the parts you'll need to make the ride improve.

Bilsteins have been on my truck for about 2 years - I'm happy with them.

I have had mine on for about that long also and could not belive the change in ride quality. Great shocks and if the ever go bad I will be replacing them with another set. I ordered mine from shock warehouse dot com and had them at my door in 4 days, free shipping, and all at a great price

I had never heard of them before FTE. I needed shocks and heeded the advice here and installed a set of them. I was amazed by the quality of the ride. A freind of mine had put Monro's on his and he like my ride much better.

My mom's Grand Cherokee had them... they do give a nice ride. they are gas pressurized... I run Rancho 9000's which are hydraulic (aka oil filled) they give a different ride but have 5 or 9 position adjustable dampening.. I have them set of softest setting for local driving and they make for a very smooth ride with my lift... This is the second vehicle I have had them on. I actuall have a spare set from my 99 F250 4x4 that I removed before i got rid of that truck... if anyone is interested

I like that i can stiffen up the ride for when truck is loaded down or doing long trips on the freeway... plus you can have different setting front or rear... see if there is anyone local running either of these shocks and hook up for a ride with them

I put Monroe Reflex's on my 2wd and think the ride sucks. Feels rough....But I was still running the stockers at 145k so I might be used to some clapped out shocks.

Why?:

-They are offered with valving specifically for the Super Duty (up to 6" lifts on the 99-04s).

-They feature a lifetime warranty (on the SD specific ones up to 6" lifts).




Another option for the lifted SDs would be Icon shocks, they come in SD Specific valving, have a lifetime warranty and a clear powder coat finish on the body to protect it........however they are more expensive.

Lifetime warranty on the Bilsteins? That I didn't know. I currently have Rancho RSX 9k's on my truck, they were on there when I bought it and I have no complaints but when they crap out, they'll be replaced by Bilsteins.

My truck rides pretty bad, but I dont know if its because of the shocks. The truck has a little over 150k on it, and I have put about 100k of that on it myself. I havent changed the shocks and dont know if they person before me did. Based on time alone, is it safe to say mine are shot?

I hate my Skyjacker lift, and the shocks that came with the lift were the worst ever. After installing the Bilsteins the ride quality did improve quite a bit. It's still rough, but that's mostly to blame on the lift. At least I don't have that mid 70's Jeep bounce anymore.

Biggest reasons that Bilsteins are so highly recommended is exactly what DC said, they are valved for SD's, they have a lifetime warranty, and they are fairly cheap. Overall they are a good deal.

Prolly so, at least worth looking in to at this point.
