Lightning Knock Off
I've loved the gen 1 lightning's but I love the 92-95 flareside more. my solution is to combine them together. Now my wife says it still needs to be a family vehcile so that means supercab. I'm looking for a good website to order such parts that I will need such as the gen 1 wheels and air dam and some other goodies such as mine isn't a 5.8 yet. But I also don't want the auto tranny. Anyone know any good performance manual transmissions? Thanks

Well that is true but I've got my eye one a totaled lightning so it will get the heart and soul ( engine and tranny) of a Lightning. I will go with auto tranny just because my wife won't drive a manual ans she would have to drive it at some point.

Fast ford fiberglass makes a lot of stuff for the gen 1 lightnings

Rims have been discontinued for years.. 17" X 8" - 5 on 5-1/2
took me 3 to 4 months to put a decent set together at a resonable cost.. try Gen 1 Classifieds on The National Lightning Owners Club for parts __________________________________________________ ____ NOS crate 5.8 Lightning shortblock * GT40 intake w/ 1" Spacer Y303 Alum heads * 1.6 RR * E303 cam * Kirban AFR * Mass air * 30# inj * T58 headers * Magnaflow Dual exhaust * CAI K&N cone * 170amp alt * Griffin alum rad w/ Efan * B&M TransPak/Diablo valve * Hughes Tranny Pan * Eaton Posi w/ LPW Girdle * Electric Ed's Cables * 285-60R17 Toyo Proxes S/T on L rims |
as for your tranny question in post #1
DO NOT GET A F-150 5 SPEED. if you do a stick shift, grab a F250 5 speed. The F-150 version is a Mazda POS that cannot handle much abuse. The F250 version has alot better synchros and is stronger otherwise, sounds like a fun project. Make sure to grab the entire electrical system off the donor lightning. I believe all of the L's are MAF EFI...and most 92-96 F-150's are SD EFI. |

Ok..its not really a lightning knock off if you've got a different tranny, cab, bed and engine...

Thanks for the info and I've found that out about trying to find the rims for it they are a PITA to get. The electrical system isn't a problem to get since the truck was basicly pancaked in the rear end too much truck too dumb of a driver slapped a telephone pole at 50 mph and totaled it out. the front end is mostly complete but the air dam was destroyed by the curb as well as the fog lights. he had aftermarket rims on it and 3 of them are junked and I wasn't even going to put stock rims on until I saw a pic of a member on here who had his stock rims powder coated black and they just looked so bad ass no aftermarket wheel could compete.

The only GEN 1's that are MAF are the ones that have been converted; these trucks are speed density from the factory.
so I guess only a lucky few of the 96 F-150/Bronco are MAF. I would have put money down on the L being MAF as well...oh well, thanks for the correction |

Ouch 650 per wheel I'm just going to have keep my eye on craigslist and nloc for that item. And I found the air dam on LMC truck cheap. I was told just get a fog light kit for autozone or local auto parts store for my best bet on the fog lights. I appreachiate all the help and info. thanks

Gen 1 Lightnings were only made from 1993 -1995, all s/d..
No L's for '96-98, then Gen II started in 1999 thru 2004.. |
