YouTube - Ford 300, cam
This has the Cliffy valve cover. It took well over 3 months to get it, after it was ordered. Going thru comments, I got a lot of 300 bashing, but about 90% was positive. I took the video, it's my nephew's rig.

Nevrenufhp--

Nice valve cover--and nice engine. Can I ask what type of exhaust you have on that rig?

nevrenufhp 01-23-2009 08:35 AM

On my 67, it's a Hedman heddder(bad idea on a Bumpside). and 2" to 2 turbo muffs, then dumps under the truck.
The 72 in the video has the same heddder, but 2.25" pipes with 2 Flowmaster 50's. No crossover pipe or anything. It does beat V8s too.

Freaksh0w 01-23-2009 10:08 AM

One time I saw a Honda beat a V8. A 305 TBI fbody from the 80's... and your point is :-D

I forgot to mention the Clifford 6=8 polished aluminum valve cover, which, of course, instantly boosts the hp by 20!! at least.

Don't answer freaksh0ws question or anything. It's not like he was not the only one who wanted to know.

Hey, you work for a big rig company, right? I just learned how relatively small the motors are in these big rigs. I couldn't believe it! The motor in the Kenworth my dad drives is only 375 CI's. I'd like to know the bore and stroke stats.
:-hijacked

Jacking done.

Most semi trucks state the size of their engine by horsepower, not ci's. And they typically use liters today too when stating the displacement. Is it a caterpillar, cummins, or detroit engine? Most of the engines in todays semi's run between 12 and 16 liters.

No, he meant CI's, I believe. It's a Cat straight six. It has 500 horsepower twin turbo.

The gear ratio's are similer to trucks, too. Obviously the ring and pinion are the same, but the final drive is still referred to "3.83" or whatever. I thought that was interesting, too.

YouTube - Pop's Rig

that engine could either be a c13 (13.6L) or a c15 (15.8L) i THINK i cant remember exactly yes gear reatios are pretty much the same its the tranny ratios that are different take 18 gears vs. 5...yeah they got 4 or 5 granny gears lol and the main granny gear is incredibly low and technically there is only 9 foreward gears but you can split each of them in half to get the 18 that way there is less of a gap between the gears....that 500 hp. engine also puts out roughly 1600-1800lbs of torque8D

my dads 2001 peterbilt 379 has a cat c15 single turbo pushing 625 hp. dont know how much torque hes got but its in the range of 1800 im thinkin never heard of dyno on a semi lol

hehe yeah sorry bout the :-hijacked

if i remember monday i will try to confirm the #S for ya :)

actually theres some cool vids on youtube of truck drags out at a truckfest in quebec theres these 2 trucks out there that work daily but are totally built...i think they are both c15 cats but one pushes 2000hp and the other is 2400hp watch these 2 trucks drag...with over 100000lbs of weight behind them watch the frames twist and the front wheels come off the ground its sick

this tan and red peterbilt driven and owned by nicholas gagnon (the one on the left) is the one with 2000hp
YouTube - Nicolas Gagnon Rodéo du camion 2007

this is the 2400hp. western star driven and owned by eric bouchard
YouTube - Eric bouchard show de boucane camdrag matane

this is what you get when you put em together 8D
YouTube - Éric Bouchard vs Nocolas Gagnon

remember each of these truck is loaded with well over 100000lbs 8D

Yes that's true, Cummins 250,290,335,350,400 were all the same 855 cid size, just different setups for power. Them old Detroits (53,71,92s) were listed by cid per cylinder and were avabile in 2,3,4,6,8,12 and 16 cylinder setups depending on model. The Cats werent listed in displacement they listed the model like the 3208 was a 600 something cid V8

The only ones who still call their cid size I can think of off hand is International, the Dt466, 570, the 365 (the 6.0 in Ford trucks) Im late to his thread, but Im happy with my old 300, its not perfect, but its faithful and Im comfortable with them as a pair of old shoes.

Hey thanks for the info! I think you guys must be right. Suren't it's not a 375 CID I6. I've seen it and it looks mammoth. It has to be more like 800 CID.I forgot about the 18 speeds, too. That helps get the load going down the road too.

yep...the ole 3408 is one hell of a v8...the guys with the 460s think they got motor8D and the 3406 is an inline 6 but it became the c15/c13 sometime between 1998 and 2000
