Turbo ??'s
 

I found a local turbo builder and he gave me a couple options. First, use stock turbo but machine it out to a bigger wheel, change the turbine housing, and remove ebpv housing. Second, give me an awesome deal on the HX50 layin in his shop. Both bring one question to mind, the downpipe. If I remove ebpv housing, which would be done on either one, that leaves my downpipe roughly 2" away from the turbine housing. Do they sell downpipes with longer necks or would I have to fabricate mine? And which option would you guys go with for the turbos??

fabricate or ford has an adapter for trucks not equipped, or just gut the valve and reinstall

You still use the EBPV housing, they remove the butterfly valve and guts and weld the pivot pin holes up, so it's just a tube now.

The first option sounds like he wants to build you a turbo like Bean's D66. Good option for stock to stage 2 injectors. The downpipe won't be an issue since by removing the EBPV you simply remove the butter fly valve and not the whole housing. The D66 is just a stock turbo that has a GTP38R compressor wheel with the compressor housing machined to fit it.

The HX50 is a good option as well but not for a stock injectored truck. Plus it is far from bolt in. A mounting kits runs $1700-2000.

Ok, I've heard good things about the D66, I'll probably go that route and it also wont be too expensive, he's real reasonable. Even though I could get the HX50 dirt cheap I dont feel like spending 2000.00 for a mount kit. Going with building mine would you guys use a different turbine housing or keep the stock one. he recommended a 17 or 19.

Turbine housing on the HX50? It will depend on what injectors. Stock or stage 1's a 17cm. Bigger than that 19cm. It all depends. I have heard of a few running stock injectored Super duties with a 19cm on a H2E which nearly the same as the HX50.

The HX50 is far from a kit, but it's worth the hard work if you have the supporting mods. The D66 is a prime candidate for what your working with.

TJ, I didn't know it had the 38R compressor. Too bad the impeller side is not improved.

Not on the HX50, he was talking about upgrading the turbine housing on my stock turbo. I'm not ever gonna go bigger than stage 2's so I think I'll go with building my stock turbo.

I'm talking about the D66... The 50/55 can run many different housing's and wheels. A very dynamic charger to say the least.

I didn't either. I just learned that a few weeks ago.

The stock turbo doesn't measure the exhuast housings in that fashion. It uses A/R ratio. Stock is 1.15. There is a 1.0 and .84 available. The smaller the number the faster the turbo will spool but it will also be more restrictive. I would leave the stock turbine housing. Bean's also recommend that with their D66.

Ok, I never knew what the 1.0 or 1.5's meant.. Well I'll be gettin with him soon and let ya'll know how it turned out.

I concure TJ. The Garretts are a weird breed to begin with. Mainly because they spin the wrong direction. haha.

Thats another thing I learned from this guy, he recomended changing the turbo system around so it would be right hand spin instead of left. Said that would give more options to work with.
