Any Mercury stuff on this site??

I know there aren't alot of them left in the world and I haven't found much here about them ...but is there a Mercury truck sub-sub-sub group in this site?

I've found the other sites on the web....but no one realy talks much about the trucks.

As it says above they are genuine stolen parts I took off a Mercury clone in the first place.

I am sure you know they are almost the same exact trucks from 1946 to 1968 when they Ford stoped making them in Canada. I believe Ford did this to save money for export reasons. There are many people here with real and clone Mercury trucks. I just really love the look of the 1960 Merc and had a 60 Ford in my parents yard and so I just went for it and actually found the badging within a month of getting the truck at my house. Tailgate and 1959 front gravel gard was different story. But this kinda gives you a history of my truck. I recieved all my information from the Mercury truck web sites and here. This is the best place for most of your answers and no as far as I know there is no club at this time but I would like to know also. Good luck.

BTW I do have the big M for the hood, I just think the plain hood looks better.

Searching for "Mercury" will show quite a few threads, but no differentiation between Ford and Mercury on this site. That said, I like to look at them all, Ford or Mercury, and having them in seperate groups would mean two forums I'd have to constantly hang out on, lol. I myself love the 47 Mercs and have been looking for one for quite awhile. But that 1960 one you posted has me considering one of them too. I wonder if they had the big window option as well?

The Ford guys around here tolerate me, in fact they almost seem nice:) .

Do you own a Merc? If so, what year?

My nephew has a 62 M100.

Michigan Rick 12-10-2008 08:15 PM

I saw your 60 in another thread.

Havi... I like them all too. I belong to a club in Canada with alot of them...but even those guys know some stuff and not other stuff.

For example... I'll ask now something I haven't found the answer for.

On 53-56 Mercury panel trucks.. There are 2 pieces of chrome that cover the Ford embossing on the back doors. I have pictures of a few of these and they all have MERC..on one door and URY with a V8 insignia on the other door. I have found the back door chrome with a period on it instead of a V8 logo at the end of the MERCURY. I'm wondering if the period means 6 cylinder?? I have seen Econoline Mercury vans and they have this same emblem on the back doors. Did Ford Canada use the same emblem for the vans they used on panels?

Those are my questions that I haven't got answered positively.

I have 2 sets of them...one rechromed and one that needs restoring. I've been offered crazy money for the unrestored set but haven't let them go.....cause you just aren't going to find them.

Havi- Yes I have seen an actual Mercury big window 60 truck only it was a long bed. I prefer the look of the small window but the big window would be nice to move over in the left lane to pass.

Michigan Rick- Yes the period does represent the 6 cyl. I read it somewhere and remember it for some strange reason. I also have a picture somewhere of a panel and will post later as soon as I find it. If you could please post pics we love pics and can learn a lot from them.

On a side note if you know anyone with a near mint 1960 fleetside tailgate for sale please pm me. Mine is great for driving around and if I dent it or scratch its perfect but would love to get a NOS or as close to perfect as I can get for car shows.

You are in luck.

One of our SoCal Chapter members (as you are :) as I welcomed you to FTE and the Chapter) is Col Flashman, who owns a 1958 Mercury M100.

It's been in his family since new.

He is your best source for info, and he doesn't live that far away.

I contacted him for you since you cannot use the P/M feature yet.

edselford58 12-11-2008 12:56 PM

I had contacted him around five or six months ago when i was still Working for Distinctive Industries in Commerce, California an Automotive interior Company -about him sharing some information on the Interior trim options for 1957-1960 Standard and Custom Seats.also Door panels and Kick panels for Custom Cabs
I was gathering information to Come out with Reproduction type seat covers in original styles offered.
Do you guys think there would be a market for original styled seat covers?

chloichina 12-11-2008 12:59 PM

edselford58- This used to be Pat Fords 57 Mercury clone the one that started the quest for Merc's for me.

He had Mercury letters on the front hood it was not what was on the 57 Mercs at the time but it was a great looking truck.
Welcome to the forum these are the greatest people for information you can find.

Hard to say 57-60 are not the most favorite style of trucks but they have had a boom as far as popularity within the last few years.

Michigan Rick 12-11-2008 02:21 PM

To me the Mercury trucks are to Fordom .. as Cameo's are to the GM crowd.

I like the 57-60 style cause not many do them...nothing wrong with being different! The period is ok to me I'm just curious. My truck is what the Canadians refer to as a "Fercury". But my 56 M100 is the real thing and actually I don't care about the badging on it cause it's going to be out wood/junk hauler. But still be pretty enough for the cruise-in crowd.

Pat Fords tailgate came from one of the guys in our club. I'll check to see if any around.
