Carbaration Fuel System question 239yBlock

SO, in the process of cleaning up my engine i wanted to upgrade to a later '57 2v intake along with changing out the Holly 94. Possibly for a Autolite 2100 or Holly 2300. any suggestions? Just a side note A fellow FTR said someone had a Holly for sale? Spokane area... Anyone remember who that was?

Have to change the distributor as well. The 54-56 dist has no mechanical advance and doesnt work well with the 2100 series carbs.

You will need a 57 and newer dist, the hex style oil pump drive and newer style oil pump. You will need to REUSE your dist drive grear as they are different.

Does that go for a Holly 2300 as well?

any 57 and newer 2v or 4 v carb for that matter. Also I dont know for sure but there maybe some issues with intake to head sealing problems as well. The 239 is a strange and little different engine than the rest of the y Blocks.

I'm no expert on the 239's, might try the Y block forum and see what the responses are in there.

Low54,

I see you got the answers for the intake over in the Y block forum. Sorry for the bad news, but atleast you didnt buy the intake yet.

Yeah, is there any way to upgrade the carb without changing the intake? or does that intake just satisfy Holly 94's?

i got a call into my buddy norm who has much of my old y block stuff . the 239 that was in my 55 f-350 when i got it had an intake that had a later ford / autolite 2 bbl on it . if he's still got it i'll see if he wants to part ways with it . and yes it was a 239 fella's , though it did have a spare set of heads from a t-bird that were real nice , dual valvesprings etc ... he's got them too .

Low54,

I'm not saying it cant be done , from what I have read, most of the time they have coolant leaks and or vacuum leaks as the ports just dont line up. If you change the heads to 56 and later heads there is no problem with intake to head seal issues. You would still need to change the dist, hex drive, and oil pump.

Gotcha...I'll continue to research, however, in the meantime, it runs like a champ.

So I cannot change over the intake and carb from my 1964 yblock to my 1956 yblock?
I would also like to install the holley 2100 and manifold on the 56 and get rid of the 56 carb and governor etc.....oh well!!

outside of a bad float and figuring out the hardway the 94 on my flatty runs o.k. which considering the luck i've had with holley products as of laste is a good thing . kevin i'm not doubting you or what ya know as i dont know the y blocks very well ... i imagine seeing as it was a car hauler and had a blown head gasket when norm got it they prolly were { the heads } swithced over . y block stuff back then , early 80's was easy to find for nothing .:)

Bill you are fine it will all work on your 56 engine

yeah, let me know what you can find out...Mainly, the intake, but i'll take the autolite as well...of course will need to change out the distrib oil pump etc...Oh, can i still change out the points with the new set-up?

bigwin56f100 12-10-2008 10:56 AM

Yea you'll be able to run the petronix if you desire or stay with points
