What Type of Exhaust System should I go with?
I’m considering putting a new muffler/mufflers on my ’04 F-150, 5.4. I was perfectly satisfied with my factory exhaust, until I heard a new Mustang a couple days ago. I have no idea what that Mustang had in the way of performance parts, but it definitely had a nice sounding exhaust system. I’m not planning on doing any engine mods to my truck, but would appreciate suggestions on what I should do to enhance my exhaust system, ie; true dual, after cat dual, single… With what little research I’ve done, I’m thinking Magnaflow or similar for the muffler. Also would like to keep the cost under $1000.
Thanks!!ffice:office" /> |
I installed a Roush Dual Exhaust on my F-150 5.4 3v & absolutely LOVE it!

I have a 3-inch flow master on my 06 and i HATE it... Will not replace it with a flow master ever again.

Risupercrewman did you fit that your self as im thinking of getting one for my 09 when it turns up. How much better does it sound than standard and was it the off road or legal version?? :-drink |
Flowmaster 40 series was installed on my 04 5.4 with under 100 miles on it, 98,000 miles as of today and I think it sounds even better than ever.
It was a cheap mod as well, $125 installed |
I'll throw a vote out there for magnaflow

I went to Roush’s website, looks like they have a single muffler into two tailpipes. I’m wondering if the two tailpipes are really necessary, or just for looks?? I’m looking for a good throaty sound during rev / acceleration. I don’t want to have to go to the expense of running true dual, if I can get good sound out of a cat back system. I’d sure like to hear from people w/ the different variations before I visit the muffler shop. I’m sure they’ll give me some advice, just worried that the advice will be a little bias. I’m thinking that what I want is a cat back setup w/ dual mufflers, and both tail pipes exiting in front of the passenger side rear wheel. I've got an '04 supercab XLT w/ about 50,000 mi. on it.

Anyone here from the midwest?

Magnaflow gets my vote. Loved it so much that I went and bought another Magnaflow exhaust for my old Mustang GT.
should be under $500 for the entire system shipped to your door. or you can buy the muffler/tips and get it custom welded using OEM pipe for under $250 easily. still looking for that OEM exhaust Ryan? |

Go with the Roush off road. I have the side exit and it sounds the best to me. If you do not like the side exit i would still go with a rear exit Roush than. The only problem is that you will love to hear it and your gas mileage will go down for a while because you will make sure to hear it often.

I went with the ROUSH LEGAL system, it's plenty loud for my taste! They are made by Borla Industries, & are very high quality, with T-304 stainless steel, & awesome Tips!............:-drink
