Need Help 2003 7.3l
 

Truck was running good, then bam it shut off. Now when you turn the key gauges jump up and down and all the other dash things flicker (low gas, glow plugs, abs, and so on) and there is a clicking sound. The key is not all the way on. Any help would be great.............. Thanks

Try checking battery connections. When the gauges jump means that they lost connections. check the positive wires from the driver's side first.

i just checked the battery connections and the driver side positive looks like it got hot could the battery of went bad? Thank u for the help

Is the cable melted then?

no not at all, just a connector and battery post were a little black

OK, then take the batteries out of the truck and have it load tested. Check your fuses since something caused it to short out and may have taken a few fuses with it. What kind of aftermarket mods do you have? Big stereo amp, winch that was used recently, or bunch of off-road lights? If the battery is toast, replace both batteries. Double check if the cable isn't toast. Bad connections will give you nothing but problems on these trucks. It will make you chase electrical issues if the connection are not squeaky clean. Good luck again. Post back what you find out. You might want to look around for other electrical wires for signs of melting.

Good to hear. Hate to ask but you did replace both batteries, right??? I know it is expensive but with one battery going down or dead, the other will compensate and as a result will weaken to the point of rapid failure. I know it sounds crazy to replace a "good" battery but these trucks need all the juice of two fully functional batteries.
