Truck Campers

In the glove box with my 2007 F150 XL long bed super cab heavy duty there is a paper from the MOCO that says I can use a truck camper up to 1432 pounds. When I look at the Lance camper brochure they only have one camper lighter than that but they advertise more campers for short bed F150's and tundras and titans.

What up? Can I use a camper thats more than 1432?

Can I add air bags and haul more?

You can use air bags helpers, etc. but slide in campers and half tons IMO dont get along.( smaller axel, brakes) you could probably handle a heavier camper, but not much. one of the scariest rides i ever took was in 85 f150 w1500lbs camper, he could not stop it, and talk about lean! If you are careful , you can do it. But IMO slide in campers are F250 territory...........P.S i might have to eat my words, im sure your 07 is a stouter truck than that 85, but that was my experience with the older f series....good luck!

That's because the manufacturer wants their trucks to have a good reputation, and the camper salesmen want to see campers. That's why there is such a difference. :) And me, I tend to believe the manufacturer over a salesmen.

There isn't anything 1/2 ton about the 8200 lb GVW Fords. A stock 9.75" rear end has a capacity of 4500 lbs. The 10.25 that comes in the HDs is rated at 5,500 or 6,000 lbs depending. I'd look at an outfitter apex 8. They are a nice pop up style truck camper. Top quality work.

Thanks for the replies. I have been looking at Palomino broncoe series B1200 but only online. There are no dealers local that stock any. My son got a free 1971 sycamore which supposedly only weighs 965 lbs and he has it in his 1996 f150 which is 302 v8 with a five speed and it seems to handle it o.k.

Just remember, when you get that camper on the truck, you got a whole different driving rig. Watch out for side winds, branches, going around the gas pumps. dont back into the corner of your garage either, LOL !!....good luck & have fun.
