Replacing driveshaft
I blew the rear u-joint out of my 72 F250 a couple weeks back, and it took the driveshaft ears off, as well as damaging the yoke. I have been having a hell of a time finding parts since I moved, I don't have my old network anymore, but I think I found what I need. It's under a 74 F250, 2wd longbed with two piece driveshaft, just the same configuration as my 72. The question is, will this driveshaft fit my 72? All I'm looking to swap is the rear half, pull the slipjoint apart, and slide it under my truck with a new universal and yoke.
Were the driveshafts still the same, or did they make some changes? |

Mine's a T18, not sure on the other one. Did they change splines or location of the center support? All I'm grabbing is the rear half or the driveshaft.

the tube its self should work,may have to use old slip yoke

1967/74 F250 2WD 352/360 / T-18 & NP435: C7TZ4817BW .. Coupling Shaft / 34 1/16" long / 3" in diameter.
1968/74 F250 2WD 390 / T-18 & NP435: C8TZ4817K .. Coupling Shaft / 34 1/16" long / 2" in diameter. Length does not include the yoke. |
Oddball question maybe. I've read in this forum a million times that a 360 and 390 are almost identical and pretty much interchangeable. If this is so, why would the truck require a different shaft based on the engine? I can onlly guess that the one behind the 390 is tougher.

Probably the increase in torque. However, my truck even though it is a 360 truck (vin Y), has a 2.75" diameter tube.
I talked with the guy, the 74 driveshaft is the same diameter, but about 2" longer. I'm going to take it and cut it down if need be, I have the tools and talents to make it work. |

since this post is similar to what I was going to start a thread about I will ask here in this thread if thats ok.......that question would be How much realisticly would I be apt to pay for a Driiveshaft for a 71-72 F100 with the 360Cid and a 3 on the Tree...also how hard are they to find I'm in Houston,Tx by the way

go to a good automotive machine shop or driveline shop they can build you one
