F150 Lariat FX4 ??
 

Hey folks, first time poster long time reader. I have a question about my 05 F150. It says Lariat above the steering colum where the gear selection would normaly be and FX4 on the side of the bed. Is this rare? Because I can't seem to find it in any of the value books. I'm wanting to sell but need help putting a value on it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Sounds like someone put an FX4 sticker on a Lariat. The two are separate trim levels.

The FX4 has black plastic flares, the Lariat has painted flares. The interior trim is different, the shocks are different. The FX4 says FX4 above the steering column. It also has a black grill with body color surround.

All of the above pictures are the 2006 model year. As you can see, there are considerable visible differences between a Lariat and an FX4...

quickest way to tell is the fender flares and grill

people go through great lengths to fake vehicles, but the fender flares are subtle. and as posted above, the FX4 interior is unique. it is the only trim level that has the Carbon fiber inserts on dash surrounding the stereo.

Also in the above pic. The Lariat can have the same center shift in between the captain's chairs just like the FX4.

Or someone might have installed a Lariat gauge cluster in an FX4.

In either case, the original poster should now know the difference thanks to the info above, so we'll see what he comes back and says...

Thanks for all the helpful information. I think it is an FX4 because it has the carbon fiber surrounding the radio and the H-bar grill. All I can figure is that a previous owner must have had the fender flares painted to mach the truck and the Lariat emblem placed in the gauge pod. Anyway, thanks again.8D

sounds like an FX4 then. What color is your truck and are the bumpers painted to match too?

I'm not sure of the official ford name of the paint color but i'd call it charcoal grey. Yes, the bumpers are the same color as the rest of the truck, as well as the trim around the grill. One thing i never mentioned is that the interior is a light grey cloth. Not sure which trucks this was an option in or if they all have the same options on interior.

My Lariat interior looks like the first pic...black interior and all except i have the wood grain on the dash...

Sounds like a really nice truck. I really like the F 150 and I hate to part with mine but I have to many vehicles and it has to go. My primary truck is a Black on Black F250 Crew Cab FX4 with the 6.4.

My Lariat is Black on Black Screw 4/4 with 5.4L + K&N FIPK and Maggie Cat Back SIDO with Chrome nerf bars. Bed was sprayed at Ford Dealer...combined with 20" Pirelli's. Wish I had the moonroof though.

All lariats have woodgrain trim

that sounds more like you have a XLT with FX4 and Lariat components. A lariat never came with Cloth Seats. somebody was a busy sucker with your truck.


the FX4 only comes with the black on black interior and carbon fiber accents. there is no other combo option for the FX4 interior.

Lariat always has leather and wood grain. usually the leather is a tan color.


so most likely the prior owner put different grille, instrument cluster and a sticker on there. I think you should visit a dealership and have the VIN pulled.

EDIT: this is a GO, NO GO to find out if your truck is a Lariat.

On the dash under the MPG/Trip/Odometer Readout. Do you have 3 little buttons?

Tylus, I'm sure he is talking about light grey seats only, not the carpet. You can get light grey (medium flint) CLOTH seats in a FX4, my truck has them too! But the FX4 carpet only comes in black.

So my earlier possible guess must be true, someone swapped the gauge cluser for a Lariat one.

and he wouldn't have a XLT hybrid like you say, XLT's only come with chrome bumpers and don't have center console shifters.

So he has a monotone Dark Shadow grey FX4 with medium flint (grey) cloth seats (captain chairs with console shifter) and someone put a Lariat gauge cluster in.

I like how the grey seats match the dash pieces and also my exterior silver color.

never seen that before. every single FX4 I've ever seen had black on black. weird.

but yeah, gotta agree 100% with you then. It's gotta be a FX4 with the cluster swap and PTM flares

Not sure why you've never seen grey seats before in the FX4, it was an option on all the 04-08 FX4 models, either black or grey seats, standard cloth or optional leather. The seat color option is still the same on the new 09 FX4's too.

When I bought mine, I looked at another FX4 that had cloth seats, so I know you can get it with cloth seats. The one I looked at had gray cloth.

I know you can get cloth with FX4...was just saying I had never ever seen grey cloth in one.

I have Grey leather in my FX4 with the black carpet. PIcs in gallery if you are interested in seeing it.

This is actually the second time Ive seen/heard of this. One of my old bosses had and 02 or 03 FX4 Lariat. I asked him how that was possible and he said he ordered it from the factory like that. It had the FX4 skid plates, shocks, decal, rims and tires, etc., but had Lariat colors (that dark tan two tone) and the Lariat interior and luxury features.

you could do that in the 03/04 heritage body style trucks. back then it was just an appearance package. Like the Chrome, FX2 are right now.

but in 2004, Ford made the FX4 a trim level. it's above the XLT, but below the Lariat option wise. That is why the FX4 Lux is really a Lariat in disguise

I've got a '08 Screw Lariat thats black with black leather interior, so there not all tan.

WOW! Looks like I've caused a lot of discussion here. I hadn't checked it for a couple of days. Anyway the interior looks like steveVFX4's pics black carpet, grey seats, silvery gray dash with black. I'd like to put some pics on here but can't seem to figure out how.
