EGR eliminator kit?
Is there any advantage to getting rid of the EGR valve on an 89 f250 with the 460?
|
Nobody? Anybody know of a gearhead ford site? Thanks in advance.
|
especially on a fuel injected vehicle there is no advantage and some disadvantages to removing the egr valve. first off the ECM is programed for it to be there so removing it will cause problems with running based on that alone.
|
The reason I ask is there is a company that makes a kit for efi vehicles to fool the ecm. I was wondering if anyone has acually used the kit and if it was worth it. The kits are fairly cheap.

It might fool the ECM OK, but, does your engine use knock sensors? EGR can reduce pinging and detonation, allowing more aggressive ignition timing when conditions allow it. Not sure an '89 uses that type of system, but I'd:
--research that before I changed. --make sure my mods were easily reversible in case it made things worse. --leave it alone if it runs good now. ymmv. |
That is why I am asking if anyone has any experience with the kit. This is my research LOL. That is also why I asked if any one knows a good Ford gear head site. It runs great but heck there is always room for improvement on these 460 either in better mpg or better power.

Keep the EGR there is no performance or mileage to be gained by removing it. There is only loss posible and it's good for the air and air is good.
Those kits are for people who have extreme stuff and can't run an EGR, but are for some reason are unable to install an aftermarket computer. |
