speaking of radio's mine is messed up also

om my 87 f150 it has a radio with a lcd display . this is a factory ford radio. nothing show's at all when its turned on. i took out the radio toop the lid off and the face plate guess thats what you call it any how there is a light bulb that's behind the lcd display it does not come on . the other light that comes on with the head lights work ok. if that bulb behind the lcd display is burnt out is that why i can't see the digital display ? or should i see the display even if that bulb is burnt out ? oh radio works just have no idea thet station i'm listening to. nor do i know if there is a clock or not. don't know what model radio it is other than it's a am-fm with tape player and it has tuning knob, a ballance knob, a bass knob and a trebble knob. don't need the U bolt tool to remove radio hse 4 screws total that hold tadio into the dash . burnt out bulb or toast?

that's what i thought. thought i might have got lucky with just a bulb. i have had 4 fords with a lcd display none of them worked along with the gas gauge in 3 out of 4 of the fords this truck is no exception. wish they put the sending units on the side of the tank and not the top. not fords better idea. but hey thanks for the help

Actually, the backlight bulb is replaceable in those units. I finally got around to doing the one im my Mustang that had been out for about 10 years. Now if it was GM vehicle you would be SOL...special bulb, soldered in place....cost is nuts to actually get it fixed. But since it is a good ol Ford, you can fix it for under a buck. Or, you can just replace the whole unit with an aftermarket AM/FM CD for cheap too.

Sorry if my reply wasn't clear. Since yours is not a GM, but rather a Ford...the bulb does just pull out and can be replaced. I don't think they are a standard automotive bulb that you can buy at Checker or where ever as I recall (but it wouldn't hurt to bring it in and let them see). If they don't than an electronics store (like probably Radio Shack) should have it.

With the bulb burned out, you can't see the display even during the day.
