New versions of the F150 at SEMA

https://www.ford-trucks.com/news/idx...Y_AT_SEMA.html

What do you think?
Will they make it into production?
Are they lame?

Ford-trucks will be there to report :)

Like cupholders, we don't have enough trim levels, XL, XLT, STX, SFE, FX4, Lariat, King Ranch, Cabella, Platinum and whatever else I missed... we could use 2-3 more out of those listed :)

Will they make it into production?
600hp electric hybrid one - no. the others probably will with 255/75/17 tires instead, and a cool paint package for the low price of 4800 dollars extra from the base model.

Are they lame?
They're more like what the current trim levels shoulda been... I could live with the first one being an XLT work truck, second one an FX4, third an STX and last one being an SFE version :-)

Those are aftermarket conversions designed to see what options consumers like, they aren't trim level concepts. For instance, the Dewalt truck uses a Roush drive train.

The many trim levels have sold well for years. :-D Given that the F150 can sell 4-5 times more units than another vehicle model, its not really unexpected that the market couldn't support at least 2-3 times more trim levels. Its a huge market.

I'm just fine with having an Roush F150 model... nothing like a truck that can clean a Mustang's clock with ease.:-whud

As to lame... frankly the majority of vehicles (cars, trucks, etc.) done up for these shows are lame. Often eveything is thrown at them, rather than having a tasteful package. Sometimes less is more. Instead of a mall crawler make a rock crawler. Instead of an explosion of 5 billion colors, come up with a nice paint job that doesn't require batteries to power. Instead of slapping every body part available from every body kit and making something look like an urban nightmare, pick and choose a few tasteful additions. Just because you can slap 250 parts on a vehicle or stuff 60 speakers in it doesn't mean you should. Obviously I'm making gross over-generalizations, but you get the idea... SEMA isn't about showing items to the customer. Its for showing your parts off to retailers, wholesalers, etc. that may buy them, so often its all about craming as much crap onto it as possible and attention getting paint. Not saying all of these F150s are lame... but I'm not saying they aren't either. :-D

That dewalt truck sure has alot going on, really reminds me of their radios that they sell!

Some of the stuff is neat.

Will it go into production, never.

only one thing missing...................

8 FT BED.................................

they still need to have a 4 door with an 8 ft bed.

I think the hipa drive model has potential....maybe it doesn't need 600 hp....but electric truck? maybe the future is coming

Yep, it sounds a lot like the hybrid mini i posted a while back (basically, a 90cc internal combustion engine powers a generator that powers the 4 160hp motors in the wheels... 90mpg and 640hp awd; with instant peak torque. You can imagine how much fun that would be :)

i'm with ya here... i'd pay, well, just as much as i paid... for a f150 s'crew with the 8' bed... maybe some day i'll either afford a PSD, or they'll make a real 1/2 ton for the construction dad... :D

I really like the look of the Street Scene truck, the one without the grille. I'm just not a fan, at all, of the new front end, but that looks good.

Fosters 11-06-2008 10:57 AM

Was reading up on the electric one... THAT thing is a truck we need... here are some stats:

over 600hp total
500ft-lbs of torque EACH WHEEL (2000ft-lbs of torque total anyone?)

the bad:
range 100 miles
the good:
the range can be enhanced ten-fold with a small gas tank/gas generator. This would turn an estimated 100mpg...

Only downside, I don't see it being very well suited for going mudding tho ;)

i would love the electric f150, and with a motor in each wheel its like 4x4 with front and rear lockers, i hope they look at this more i know cat just did or is about to come out with there electric off highway dump truck so it can be done, especially considering their electric ones, i think has a payload of 350 tons...

96sherm 11-06-2008 09:56 PM

great... electric trucks... i sure hope someone is recording some sweet V8 exhaust sounds because i can't drive a truck that sounds like a cordless drill!!!
