Building a 460
I want to build a 460 to put in my 73 F-100 that I will be desert racing. I will be buying a used engine and c6 trans to start with and then completely rebuild both of them. Is there anything to look for when trying to find a donor engine and trans? What kind of power can I get out of one of these? What intake, heads, carb, headers and whatever else is a good combo. Not worried about spending some cash just need a very strong reliable engine. Let me know what you think..

do you want to build a stroker or just over bore?
is it sanctioned desert racing? aluminum heads or iron? how much money do you want to spend? there are about 15 head choices, 4 or 5 stroke choices, and various rod choices. There are people making over 900 hp with modified stock parts safely. |
460 motor
It is a sanctioned event however it is a fairly open class as far as motor goes I know the only guideline the motor has to follow is it has to be naturally aspirated. I want aluminum heads and don't know what to do as far as bore and stroke. What are the differences in overboaring versus stroking? What block should I be looking for to start with? What kind of price ranges are we looking at here. I am looking to spend what I need for a good motor and still make it reliable. I also don't want to be tuning it all the time. So possibly fuel injected? I don't know?

I would look for a D9VE production block. I would have it sonic tested and bore it .060 or .080. Get a forged scat 4.5 stroke crank with 6.7 bbc h-beam rods and a set of diamond pistons. I would get a set of Kaase p-51's or A460 heads, have them cnc ported and top it off with an a460 intake and a dominator. You will have a 557 that make somewhere 800-900 horses.

That sounds like what I am looking for. Do you know where I could pick up some of those parts and what kind of price range does all that fall under?
