Rapid Blinking Turn Signal
 

Hey guys, has anyone come across this before. When I turn on the left turn signal it flashes about twice as fast as the right one. The right one flashes normally as it always has. Could this be the turn signal relay going or something else? Anyone pinpoint the whereabouts of the relay? I'm guessing it's under the dash somewhere. Thanks in advance for any help.

Usually a burned out bulb.....check that first.

Thanks for the quick reply. I did check that, both the front and back signals work, just flash much quicker than normal. Could the bulb still be an issue even if it flashes?

Yes, the bulb can still flash and be at issue. And I agree, it's probably a bad bulb. You can also pull them out and check for moisture and corrosion in the sockets and harness connectors.

Also, if you use LED bulbs, they will flash more rapidly.

I had that problem on my expedition, and I thought the bulbs, too. They al looked good, but I replaced them anyway, but I still had the problem. It ended up being the flasher module itself.

It can also be caused by a short in the wiring on that side. The more eletrical load the faster the flashing.

Either a bulb or flasher would be my guess. Both cheap fixes anyway.

Also, if you have a trailer wiring harness, be sure to check that. It actually has a module on it. It went bad on our 94 ranger, and we had all sorts of problems.

Had the exact same problem on my 95 Taurus, but the emergency flashers worked normaly.

If yours is wired the same as my Taurus, it will have a single electronic flasher which operates flashers & turn signals & if the emergency flashers work fine, the multifunction switch is probably the culprit.

Thats what the problem was on my Taurus

Should have mentioned that the way I knew the multi switch was bad was to simply check the resistance thru the switch.

In the right turn circuit there was no resistance equals good.

In the left turn circuit there was high resistance which equals a bad switch.

50 bucks for a new switch & a couple minutes to install it & problem solved.

As the other guys mentioned the fast flashing is caused by high resistance somewhere in the circuit. Find that & the problem goes away.

That happed on my 02 jeep wrangler and I had water in the turn signal which blew the bulb. Replace the bulb and sealed the lense, worked normal.
