IKE visits Calvert City

I heard that hurricane Ike made a stop in Calvert City last Sunday. Heard there were 3 semi's turned over on I-24. I hope everyone is alright.

Ike hit a lot of places. I guess up here in N. Ky it was almost like a cat 1 hurricane without the rain. It's wednesday evening and there are about 300,000 Duke Energy customers without electricity in the Cincinnati/N Ky area.

We got the wind down here in the Louisville area. Had 75 MPH gusts. There are still a lot of folks without power and other necessities here and we've got the joy the Ryder Cup in town. Hadn't heard about Calvert City. The Louisville media doesn't cover anything outside of the their viewing area, though.

It's tough to get statewide news up here. N.Ky, should be part of Cincinnati, which I'm not in favor of. We never get any state government news up here unless you listen to a Lexington or Louisville radio station.

The rest areas are still closed in I-71 from Louisville to Cincinnati, except the southbound one south of Florence, Ky, and they were all closed on 64 from Louisville to Evansville, In. As of yesterday, there were still over 100,000 without electric in the Louisville area, as well as the N.Ky/Cincinnati area. Is Calvert City doing any better?

Actually, I'm in Illinois and have some property near Calvert City (Kuttawa). A friend who was there last Sunday saw the overturned trucks. I wanted to drive down this weekend to see if I got damage, but will need to try next weekend. You're right, news is hard to come by. -AC

We are fine hear in Calvert City, yes there is damage around the area and we were without electricity for a few days, but I have not heard of any fatalities and that is the main thing, I just got my computer back on line Thursday.
We had no rain, just high winds with tremendous gusts, it was already dry in the area so to be outside was awful with all the dust in the air. The clean up here at my home was time consuming.
To summarize it all I would say we were blessed.

If you can't make it down next weekend let me know, I will be going to Eddyville for my last race of the season and would not mind driving by your place and looking for you. The race is the 27th, if you need me to check it out give me a call Friday the 26th after 5pm. I will have an F-150 4X4 on a trailer so I will need turn around room.
I will try and PM you my number.

Also, if you feel that it is urgent, I can make a trip there this week to check it out.
