Where's The Lincoln Y-Block Guys At ???
 

Looking fo the hardcore LYB guys out there. Finally getting ready to build the long awaited stroker engine.

I've aquired a lot of goodies and made a lot of other pieces for it in the last few years, plus I've learned a lot more about them along the way.

Don't know a lot but do have some experience. I am going to build a 279 for my COE. Have never had any luck finding anyone that new much. Got a question just ask and maybe we can figure it out between us.

I'm here too. Got a couple books with the Lincoln Y info. We are, of course, assuming you're talking about the lincoln y's in the trucks.

I'd be interested in both the truck and Lincoln Engines. What will and what won't interchange. Will the intake from a 332 truck fit a 279 truck or do any of the Lincoln parts fit on the truck and the reverse.

As far as I can tell from my books and other reading, the truck motors are pretty much in a world of their own, with only a few versions that share only some stuff with the car version. I don't think any of the newer 302/332 truck motor parts fit the 279/317 except for maybe the exhaust manifolds. I know that very little even changes between the 279/317 motors.

I am not sure about the distributor, but for the starter, it should. The starter fitment depends on the transmission bellhousing, and the sixe of the flywheel. As far as I can remember, all the starters have a three bolt flange, and the bendix is sized for a specific sized flywheel. Every Y-block (239-312) that I've seen or touched, I could interchange all the starters between them. The distibutor may also fit, depending on cam gear count. You should measure the shaft length to be sure. The thermostat should fit fine, as long as it is the same diameter. I've never seen a different sized one, so I don't know for sure. I am assuming you are request info for the Ford Y's. I do know that very few parts from any Lincoln, will fit the Fords.

I'm interested in the interchange between a 239-312 Y, and a Lincoln Y, for distirbutor, thermostat, and starter, to help a fellow building a 1955 341. Mummert's site says the distributors do interchange, so to me that means a post 57 should work, as long as the gear is changed. Therefore the aftermarket Mallory and the like should work too. If starters interchange, then the aftermarket minihightorque should work as well. I know the oil pumps interchange. Do not know if the intermediate shafts are diff. or not in terms of length. An FYI, Ford 223 I-6 pushrods are the same as the Linc. Y's.
As for starters, my 1954 Ford 600 tractor's starter quit. Pulled out an old Y starter, bolted it on and its been starting ever since. So it seems they could be the same for the big block Y's.

hi, all the big truck linc. based engine parts interchange, heads, cranks, rods, manifolds, bellhousings. the late 4bbl truck intake works with a late holley. the dist. works, just change the gear. the trucks used steel cranks and HD rods. 368's and 332's have ECU on the side of the block. they used the same lifters as a FE, and a FE bellhousing will fit, i think the dowls are different size. 56-57 368's had bigger ports and valves, higher ratio rockers also. 368's had 4.00 in. bore with lots of meat in them. HD trucks used gears instead of a timing chain so the cam runs backwards. 52-54 linc. used 4-speed hydro's and 55-57's used cast iron cruiseo's with aluminum bell's that you could make adapters for t-5 or c-4's like they do for the y's. hope this helps, wayne.

How can I tell if I have 368 heads?

they will have 2.00 in. intake valves and 1.65 exhaust. i'm not sure on casting #, i'll check next time i get out to look at my parts.

Just a suggestion.

You might start a new thread explaining what you're asking etc...... This one is almost 15 years old and hasn't been responded to in nearly as many years. Also, there is a "Classified" section where you can post things for sale or trade. It's usually frowned upon in the discussion forums....
