I found something I hate about my truck

THE BRAKE PADS!!!!!!!!

They put off so much dust it is unreal and a pain to keep clean.

Ryan50hrl 09-03-2008 08:51 PM

AKEBONO pads...you'll never look back

Supercrewzin01 09-03-2008 08:55 PM

Where do you get those and how much? I have never heard of those.

DaMole 09-03-2008 08:58 PM

I agree with ya. It does not bother me much anymore but all our ford trucks do it. I'm probably just use to it now. There is a couple different brake pads that will eliminate it.

its a ford thing. never had a ford that didnt dust horribly

Tylus 09-03-2008 11:56 PM

it's every single car. my Dodge does it just as bad as my F-150 does

SteveVFX4 09-04-2008 08:46 AM

yeah it can be pretty bad. But for some reason the rears don't usually produce much dust. I changed my front pads at only 500 miles because of the dust. But my Dad used to have an 04 as well and his factory front pads didn't really produce much dust.

it all depends on your braking habbits, when i'm the only one driving my trucks its bad but not horrible, when the wife drives it worse, but f***me i let my uncles wife drive it for 2 days once and the front rims were black the rear rims even had brake dust on them, it looked like i havent cleaned my rims in a month

I put wagner thermo quiet pads and rotors on mine and no more problems with dust love em... got all for about 170.

have same problems front brakes went to Midas today had Cremetic pads put on front $ 120.00 for pads stopping great will see if any dust after the weekend

The brake dust encourages me to keep my truck washed. The front wheels get dirty first and I wash the whole truck when I clean the wheels. Keeps the paint looking great.

I havent had that problem with my 05 F150 but the wheels on my parents 05 escape are covered and black. Does it make a difference if a person rides the brakes like my dad.

greenego 09-06-2008 01:53 PM

Did Ford change the brake material in the last few years? My 2001 superduty has never been a problem with brake dust and still has the original brake pads at 73000 miles. I've never had a brake dust problem with any vehicle I've ever owned. I do see a lot of vehicles ( cars and trucks ) on the road today with totally black front wheels from brake dust. I always just assumed that it was people riding their brakes too much or brake materials have changed since my 2001 model.

I think some of the problems with brake dust has to do with people's driving habits. I've noticed that alot of people come up to stop signs so fast that you think they're going to run them only to slam on the brakes at the last moment. I start slowing down early so I don't have to brake hard an I rarely have any noticable brake dust on my '05's wheels.
