Yes it is pitted but the chrome is still there the pits are rusting.

No you won't,
If its not pitted or anything just sand it like
you would anything else.

Ok so it won't hurt to weld up the bolt holes and sand prime,then paint.

Cool I will add that to my plans for my truck. Now all I have to do figure out some taillights that will be different.

For that smooth look.
and I guess if you want the truck dropped that
seems like a good way to do it.
Personally, I don't like them dropped but that's me.
Raised yes, leveled OK, dropped, no use for it.
