Yes it is. The truck lived it's first 5 1/2 years in Michigan, and it's been in Wisconsin the rest of the time. I am in search of a new bed side(or whole bed) to replace the right side, the other spots are just surface rust for now. Those will be delt with this winter.

Has anyone tried coating there frame rails and underbody? if it just surface rust(for now) couldn't you just sand it off and put some rust bullet on it? body work is one thing but i don't want my frame rails rusting through. what are you guys doing to stop it?

If you're going to live in the frozen north where salt is going to be used the only thing to do is to go through a good full service car was twice a week, at least. That does work.

Most of the upper half of my truck has been repainted minus the roof and some of the lower tan two-tone.

She was born early in Kentucky Oct 1998 at 12:08 A.M. with a GVW of 9900LBS, at a length of 24'. Unfortunately she was born premature with smaller turbo, injectors, HPOP, and she had some problems with her front rotors but we have worked though it.

I forgot the inside of the drivers door, it's not as bad as the tailgate.
The rest of the doors are OK, for MN standards.

As for salt not eating paint, I will agree. But at the doors what happens is the salt/water vapor works its way up in the door at the lower seam and eats away from the inside out.

All the vehicals that I have had for longer that 5 yrs in this state have had the door rust, the doors are set up to catch moisture.

At least the fords havent seen the weird flaking of the top coat that the chevys did in the 90's

Mine dosen't fit in the automated washer, so I have to self serve power wash in the winter. Nothing is going to save your doors unless you don't drive during the winter.

Neither does mine. I try to get in once a week if I drive it a lot, every two weeks for sure.

With the design of the doors, there will always be crap on the lower seams of the doors, unless it's sprayed out daily. Rust is something I've come to live with living in the rust belt.

99 spent most of its life? Me on the other hand, keep is somewhat clean, the best I can. Waxed a few times a year, completlely wheeled out every year(my truck had prior damage and I have been trying to fix the fk up from it, which was not caused by me) a bit rusty, but mostly where ya can't see it :). Inside lower doors, window gasket towards back and lower tailgate. All the frame as surface rust, replaced rear dif cover due to rusting issues.

My buddies 2000, rusted bed side above the wheel wells in the back(like the OBS are notarious for). Have no clue how it was treated since he just got it a while back.
Both built in KY.

I live in MI so it is expected. Thats why my car is getting parked inside for the winter. It will be high and dry(literally), while I am under it hopefully adding some go fast parts.

01 in SE Wisconsin. It is starting to rust where every Ford does...right at the top of the rear wheel wells.

I forgot. It is somewhat clean (like once a month or so) and I drive it in the winter...it is a 4x4 truck...

00' CANADIAN MADE---I did have some rust in the lower left hand side rear cab corner, and also the back door lower part. But thats to an idiot with no license and a minivan, took the whole driver side out. So now,it hasn't got any rust in it.

Frame and components I'm not too worried about. . . although they should be treated too. Cab corners is something I havn't seen at all. In fact I don't think I've seen rust on the cabs yet.

Late 99 KTP, shipped to GA from factory, I bought it 1 year later. 275K miles now, no rust anywhere, but FoMOCO robot painter started to run out of paint when the pax front fender was painted and now its pinkish(read: faded)
all fasteners underneath can still be taken apart with a wrench, or socket, oil pan is still black. SS fuel and brake lines are dull, but not rusted.
