New owner of a 1999 F-150

Howdy all,
I am the new owner of a 1999 F-150, Extended Cab,2WD, unsure of the engine size (badge reads Triton so...5.4?) The only issue it has is that it starts hard, and you have to give it gas while starting. Any thoughts on what this could be? It has a new battery. I was wondering if it was the fuel pump trying to go out.

Also, anything I should be aware of that goes out on this model/yr Ford? Pervious owner was incredibly thorough in his maintenance of the vehicle, reciepts for everything from when he picked it up new in 99.
Thanks,
Craig

maybe the fuel filter is clogged or the O2 sensor may need cleaning.

Put a fuel pressure gauge on it and see if the pressure falls off alot after the motor is off. If it does post the results.

Look under the hood usually it says on the very top of the engine the intake part black plastic 4.6 Triton or 5.4l Triton

Today it fired right up with no issues. Second tank of gas I have run thru it since I picked it up on Saturday. Any takers that I might have had some bad fuel or some moisture in the fuel?

Very happy with the way the truck rides on the highway, mileage is well within what I expected / want out of a pickup, it is comfortable and all in all a good truck.

I will post some pics and specs on the truck when I get a chance. I hope to turn this into my toy (mods, rims, etc....) It is the third Ford we have now.

See ya',
Craig

Did you check on the engine size?

5.4L Triton

If it keeps starting hard every now and then, it might be the IAC valve. Usually only acts up when its cold outside.

Will it act up in humid conditions? I ask because it hasn't been cold to speak of here, lows hi 70's.
