Holes in filter housing

I originally posted this in the excurion forum because I did not notice this forum. I have a 2000 X with the V10 the guy I bought it from had installed a k/n filter but drilled holes about the size of your little finger all over the top half of the filter housing that covers the filter. He said he did this to get more air flow. My questions are is the good or bad, do I need to replace the filter housing with a new one, if I due where can I buy the housing at. Second does anybody know anything about the banks ram air filter kit good or bad? Any help on this would be greatly appreicated. Last what is everybodys best opion on the best filter set up for the V10.

i would say as long as the air going into the engine is filtered then you are good

Thats what I thought to but I have seen alot of people talking about the hot air in the engine compartment not being a good thing and trying to keep it out.

From the hard data I've seen, there is minimal restriction in the bone stock intake and any and all modifications and replacements seem to produce minimal results unless many other engine modifications (headers, exhaust, chip, etc) are also done.

My opinion of best is the stock enclosure with high quality paper (I use Napa Gold) filter changed regularly.

Good move to allow air in but bad move it also allows hot underhood air in. This gets hot enuff it reduces spark and therfore power. You can open up the inlet size going in and put a short piece of PVC pipe in from filter housing to fender inlet. Air inlet is increased but still isolated from temps. :-X18
