little lift- BIG tires
was reading this article on autoblog The "jeeps" of Iceland: here there do be monsters - Autoblog
and saw this freakin awesome 08 350 http://www.blogsmithmedia.com/www.au..._trucks_22.jpg has anyone here done anything like that? the article states the truck has only a 5 inch lift and 40" tires. |
Isn't that going to rip the fenders off???
|
I read an article about five years ago that focused on the iceland adventure trucks made out of land rovers. AEV has done this with Jeep Wranglers. And, there was an show on TV that had a Toyota Landcruiser with 40 inch tires and a small lift. If you find anything, share.
Also, I don't think the fenders will get torn off. From what I remember, the suspensions and fenders are modified pretty extensively. |
It looks like if the LR goes up about 8 inches it will hit in the front. I guess you can't really tell from pics though.

Did a quick search and found this article--not sure if this is where you found the original picture.
The "jeeps" of Iceland: here there do be monsters - Autoblog EDIT--Doh! I missed the link in the first post. |

IMO that truck looks just as bad as the ones with the 30" lifts on ebay

oh come on, this truck is built to go, these things are def. not pavement pounders, they cross glaciers with them. a dodge, but truly a badass machine http://www.blogsmithmedia.com/www.au..._trucks_01.jpg So he took Unimog pieces like the axles and brakes, and mounted those on the Dodge. Notice that the hubs are below the axles, for extra clearance. There's an extra transfer case for extremely low gearing. There's an extra gas tank. Then he threw 54-inch tires. The tires are bolted to the rims. The air pressure can be controlled from inside the cabin. There's an additional valve on the rim to let air out quickly. And do you know what he did then? He ran over the Earth. i got a kick out of that line. i'd love to get some 37's under my '00 with the 4 inch lift. |
The hubs are below the axels? Tires are bolted to the rims?
You make no sense. |

I'm liking that black super duty crew cab--a whole lot! By the way, I have 35s (315/170) on my 2005 with stock suspension. I would guess I could get 40s on the truck if I added a 5 inch lift, cut the fenders and changed the offest on wider wheels without any problems. Those trucks would be great at the beach or the hunting lease if it was muddy.

There is a guy on a couple other forums, Tanks250 he is running only 4.5" and has cut outs, running 41s. He wheels the heck out of the truck and has made almost everything for it except the lift stuff.

Normally when they build these suspensions like this they build them for extension and not compression. So right now there is probably only a few inches of uptravel until it hits a bumpstop, but there is a whole lot of downtravel. A lot of the jeepers I go wheeling with are tending to build their rigs this way now to keep the center of gravity down. |
