Off-car cleaning of injectors???

Are there places that you can take injectors to that will clean them? I have around 200K on my '87 F150 and a can of Seafoam or two now and then is all that has ever been done to clean them. It doesn't seem like it would be that far fetched to do this as they are not that hard to get off.... but I certainly don't have the equipment to clean them. As a side issue..... am I getting entirely too "OC" about this? Am I diving in too deep or would it, indeed, be good to take them off and give them a thorough cleaning? Opinions please?

I've used WitchHunter Performance - Injector Cleaning & Flow Testing Services before to clean some motorcycle injectors. They provide before and after flowrate and spray pattern data, and the pricing was very competitive when I had the work done.

At 200k it is very likely the injectors could benefit from a bench cleaning. Many diesel repair shops also service gasoline injectors, however, it may be more cost effective to just buy some refurbished injectors. I recently bought some flow matched injectors from an online dealer and the set cost a little less than what a local service shop would have charged to clean the ones I have.

I thank you gents. I never even thought about that (the idea of "flow matching"). I'll have to price out a set and see how it works but I can see where, with this many miles, the things might just be worn out too! I don't know how they are made so I don't know whether or not they DO wear out.....

But thanks again.

Conanski, what online dealer did you use and were you satisfied?

Conanski 07-22-2008 12:51 PM

I'll have to look through my paperwork for the company name... and I have not installed the injectors yet so I can't comment on thier performance, but they look like new, were delivered fast and were well packaged. So far so good.

I bought a set like what Paul is talking about from a company called Five-O Motorsports (they were selling on eBay at the time). That was several years ago, and everything is still running smoothly.

Did the new injectors do anything for your truck?

EPNCSU2006 07-22-2008 07:32 PM

Nothing really noticeable, but that was about 40000 miles ago.

I bought a set of reconditioned ones from this guy. Very happy with them.
