Weight Fee on Registration

Hey does anyone else have a Weight Fee on their vehicle registration bill?

Mine is $154 (just the weight fee) with out it my truck would be $81 but noooo they have to charge me an extra $154 just cuz my truck has a thyriod problem.....

DeluxF150 07-16-2008 03:06 PM

yeah, i got in a fight with the guy at the dmv over it.
Last year my reg was $400, would have been two somethin w/o the massive weight fee

Ca also considers all pickups as commercial vehicles so they can charge more. jerks.

BradyCouchman 07-16-2008 03:11 PM

you CAN register your pick up as a non commercial vehicle BUT and that is a big but you can NOT and i mean NOT put anything and i mean anything in the bed! the PO of my truck did that and he had a bike in the bed and got a ticket for it and had to get it retaged......

DeluxF150 07-16-2008 06:00 PM

I tried that, but the guy told me that there had to be a 'permanent' covering over the bed as in a camper shell that does not quick connect/release

They nail you on the weight fee, because they can't nail you for smog.

DeluxF150 07-16-2008 08:45 PM

hell, I know a lot of people that get nailed for smog too

SteveBricks 07-16-2008 08:53 PM

Yeah, but not in a 1970 F350.

ahhh, very true

It's the GVWR where they get you...the tag on my 85 L-900 was $1200 a year its GVWR was 28500....

I got nailed by some level of ignorance on my Dog Van...B3500 it had noncomms on it...guess it had been an rv or something...that durned thing cost like 500 bucks..had to get it reweighed at a scale...a real mess....all because the van had lumber racks on it...well that's what the CHPatrol said.

Van now costs $280~ a year...and I get the added enjoyment of smog check 2 on a van with 230K+ miles.... this year 'round I non-opped it...shine them...when I have to I'll register....

Well, if you want lower taxes/fees whatever...vote conservative...like a Tom McClintock...that's the dude that wants to virtually eliminate car reg fees.

I'm going the Oregon route using my Dad's address ...I got 6 vehicles to keep on the road...and it seems I'm always paying the DumbMV for one that's due..

Yes, I'm a native California...but I'm a Goldwater Republican....where's Teddy Roosevelt when we need him...or if not him...the man on horseback....

BradyCouchman 07-17-2008 09:56 AM

dang man $12000 a year is out of site! if i had to smog and register my truck i would freak! although the guy i bought it form had the paper work to show that it passed smog every time the first time when it needed to back before it was exempt, so i bet it still would, no way in heck that i want to find out for sure tho!

I am also a native California (Great Grandparents are buried here in So Cal) and a Republican...but enough of the polictical stuff.

I was told the same thing about registaring my truck non commercial, I have a camper shell on it but went commercial anyways. It cost me $28.00 a year in Co. and $137.00 out here for a 77 F150.

th1567 07-19-2008 10:01 AM

Yeah, $1,200 was crazy bread..we sold it and started using a trailer when we needed..

Kalifornia sucks when it comes to registration fees. That is one of the reasons I can't wait to move out of this state. In Oregon you can register your vehicle for 1,2, or 4 years at a time. Maybe I should have my brother register mine up there using his address?
