2007 Mercury Grand Marquis suspension into a 72 F100
Alright here is my rendition of Carcrafters project.
I have a 72 F100 shorty, here is what it will be getting. As you can notice I will be using alot of Mach1 parts, and just from some quick measurments quite a bit of this stuff will bolt in after a few holes are made or support bracket is fabed up not alot of hacking to get it to fit. Clutch cable is going to be a tricke one. 2007 Grand Marquis front suspension 2004 Mustang Mach1 32 Valve motor with 5 speed 1970 Plymouth Roadrunner pistol grip shifter for non consel car 2003 Marauder motor mounts 2003 Escape leather seats 2005 Dodge Magnum 17 inch steel wheels 2004 Mach1 anti-lock brake controller 2004 Mach1 instrument cluster needs a custom gauge pod 1970 Mustang fuel tank with 2004 Mach1 fuel tank internals 1997 Explorer rear disc brakes bolted to stock 9 inch rear with lug converters 2004 Mach1 clutch pedal/gas pedal/master cylinder 2004 Mach1 wiring from front to back 2004 Mach1 air conditioner condenser / radiator 2004 Mach1 shaker assemble under the hood 2004 Mach1 steering column, front mounting bolts are same as truck, needs a support bracket for rear bolt holes Volvo radio install kit |

Of course we ( when I say we I mean me LOL) need lots of detailed pics and info on the 2003 escape seats install, and the instrument cluster install. :D If you need any help with anything let me know, I would be happy to help. Randy |
The project has been under way for the past week. The front sheet metal is off, the front frame rails have been stripped of everything stock. The frame rails have been boxed, some useless holes filled in. I will be stripping the frame rails to paint them today. Then tomorrow the cradle and motor will be bolted in and a tranny mount made.
Pictures to follow tonight!! This is a very easy process, especially when you have a plasma cutting machine. |
I agree I love my plasma cutter, makes cutting anything up to 1" thick steel easy as pie. :D

LOL, the sprite, coke and Dr pepper!! I must have drank 20 sodas in the past week working on this truck. If I was drinking beer, well........I migh not be this far,, but I would have got alot more sleep over the week then I have.

Is the wheel mounting surface width the same as the truck's? Does the cross member fit tight up against the frame(outside of frame to inside of crossmember)? This is looking better everytime I see this done. Thanks,

-Lance It does not fit tight up against the frame. There is 1 and 1/2 inches between the frame and the cross member on either side. |
I just found a rear suspension, actually 3 that are in Mark VIII's, im going to pull one out of a 95 or 93, both have just a bit over 100K. I am getting the brackets from Team321 LLC Ford Truck Independent Rear Suspension (321)960-5945 dheld@cfl.rr.com and hopefully will be getting it installed once the brackets arrive. I will also be doing a Cobra rear hub swap on the rear end, since it is not a 5X4.5 pattern.
I have also made some progress on the clutch pedal, the Mach1 pedal slid right in the F100 assembly, and needs some spacers. Ill take some pics and post them up. I was surprised after playing with them both for an hour or so. |

Update.
I got the rear suspension today!! And I have managed to purchase some other parts too. Such as. 33 inch Ididit column, Borgeson coupler, Borgeson steering shaft, and the cool thing is after I swap the mount bracket over, it will bolt right in, AND hook up to my Panther steering rack!! The steering rack had the steering shaft on it, and well its got a 3/4 inch DD shaft, pics to follow once I get it all together!!!!! Ive also got some other parts coming, and still need to get a transmount. I have been working on smoothing out the fire wall, I cut out the big indent in the middle of the wall and welded in a sheet of 16 gauge. Ive got 3 more patches to put in, im loosing all of the factory holes that I dont need. I have the wiper motor from the Mach1 and its an almost direct swap compared to the stock unit. I need to clock the new one, and then it should bolt right on, ill have to swap the wiper pivot arm, but a little welding can fix that. Then ill have a 3 speed motor. I was hoping that the Mach1 AC box was going to fit once I cut out the big ole indent in the firewall, I was WRONG!!!! Its still not even close. The time t would take to fabricate and design a new box would be way too much. So im going to pick up a Custom Auto Air kit and have lines made to use the Stang compressor. This weekend I will get some pics up. I have been doing some research on Air Ride systems, to put one together. Its rather inexpensive compared to what I thought the parts would run. |
