C6 or AOD (that is the question)

Hey guys, I got an '89 F150 with a 300 6 cyl. It had a M5OD trans in it, and it needed a clutch/flywheel, and the trans rebuilt. So, I decided to change it to an automatic trans, since I have one already. My question is: I have a C6 and an AOD. I actually have 2 C6's, one that's a '79 model, and one that's a '90 model. I also have a '92 Cougar AOD. Is one of the C6's better than the other one or should I go with the AOD?

I already bought a flywheel (flexplate, or whatever you guys call it) for a C6, is the torque convertor bolt pattern the same as the AOD? The real advantage for me for the AOD is that it bolts in place and I wont have to have a driveshaft cut for it. I dont ever intend on pulling a trailer or anything, and I am well aware that I am goin to loose some power due to the automatic from the stick. The truck has 3:08's gears in it now so it wouldnt be that bad with a 1 to 1 C6 in it? The thing is I dont know anything about any of the trans's that I have? I do know the C6 was doing fine in the truck it came out of a few years ago, but I know nothing about the '90 model C6 or the AOD.

Thanks for any help!:-X25

i would use an aod considering gas is $4/gal

mpg for truck depending on how you drive it would be roughly

M5OD 16-20mpg
aod 14-16
c6 12-14

Your AOD is a later one with some or most of the AOD problems fixed. Light load, no towing, AOD should be good.

BE SURE the TV cable is adjusted correctly. If you are in doubt about this at all, post, there are several links showing how to adjust.

Good luck, not sure about the flex/tc thing, but you should be able to eyeball that methinks....

C6 if you want a tough trans go with the C6.
Yeah, the AOD can be made tough, but it will cost you big!

If his AOD is from behind a V8, and in good condition, it should be ok for this application. Older, six/four cylinder jobs--waste of time.

In the Ford Family of Fine Transmissions, the C6 is the champ....
